On the temperature guage there are Cold/Mark/Middle/Mark/Hot

does anyone know what these markings are in degrees?
I think my thermostat may be stuck open as my temperature never seems to get above the Mark after Cold, but it goes up if i get stuck in traffic.
The cooling fan kicks in at around the Middle of the guage.

Where should the needle be sitting under normal driving?

mid point is around 100c as thats normally when fan kicks in

fan is usually in at 100 and off at 90 or 95

normal operating is prolly on or slightly above the first mark (assuming the senders not dicky)

After a nice drive today it settled at first mark after blue.
So all seems fine.

best way to tell is to wind it upto 70mph on a motorway, pop it into 5th and sit there

if temp starts dropping off into the blue its knackered

my old 1.2i did that, rag it round the streets and it would hold around the first mark as it should

but on the motorway u could make it go up and down on demand

cruising- falls to blue
floor it and within 10seconds its climbing again :)

I would do that if i had a fifth gear

I will give the motorway trick a go sometime.

I would'nt worry if it don't get hot, mine only gets two segments past the blue however I drive and it runs fine. plus the heater works fine even in winter. :)

i dont reckon ur engine will blow up neway, if it overheats there will probably be steam comin from the header tank as my escort did this wen the sender for the fan stopped workin, and it used to overheat when idling and then, 1 month later..........the headgasket went lol
