Right I've got a GTE engine with the black screw on ditributer cap and it ain't advancing the ignotion/runs like shit. I've also got a fully functional GSI and have been comparing the set up. The GTE engine doesn't seam to have a crank position sensor, (there is a place for it) and the MAP sensor when you un plug it, it plugs into nothing where as the GSI has a crank sensor albeit slightly different and the MAP plug actually connects onto two metal prongs.how do these engines differ as in when they were produced. have I got the wrong dissy on the GTE engine is it supposed to be the orange clip on type, it it supposed to have a crank sensor and should the MAP plug actually connect with somethin?
The GTE engine has been put into a 1.2 car (not by me,I wanna add)
Help Please.
Cheers

Dont think the gtes had crank sensors? wot screw on the dizzy cap? theres a 13mm nut underneath it undo it and move the full dizzy. use a timmin light.
moving the dizzy about on the gte has negligable effect lol. the ign is controlled by the ECU ;)

As Stuart said it's all electronic the ignition timing hense the need to know what the ecu needs in the way of sensors to determin the ignition advance. By saying the screw type I mean the dizzy cap is held onto the dizzy by two screrws/bolts and not the metal spring clips, one of them is the "hall Effect" dizzy but am unsure as the "bilbe" haytnes manual is really unclear when it comes to this section and the circuit diagrams are appauling, they show everything and you have to extrapolate what your model has and with it being a gte lump in a k reg 1.2 it's abit mish mashy to say the least. I think one uses a crank sensor and the other a knock sensor I'm unsure, the gte lump has a place for the cranksensor but the loom doesn't seem to.
