Needs piston rings apparently thats what it means. What else could have happend to this then if that has happened, Any tell tale signs.

its probably just worn out and needs a rebuild

Breathing means that there is a loss of compression, and the engine is 'breathing' or air is leaking from somewhere....

Either piston rings, valves or head gasket.

Told its is piston rings last night, what work will be needed to sort this.

for safety, rebore + new oversized pistons, new rings etc. while your at it might aswell get the crank checked and new bearings too

Where would be the best place to source them items, pistons,brgs,crankshaft,rings.

open yellow pages, and find a local engine builder/engineering firm. they will be able to sort everything for you.

if your going for uprated performance items then you will ahve to look elsewhere though.

No not looking for more power in re-build just to get it running right and reliable to drop in the nova.
