Hi All

Ive seen it mentioned on this forum that it is possible to get a 4.29:1 final drive for the F10 gearbox. I am looking for as low a final drive gearing as possible for my Autocross car as the only gears commonly used while competing are the first 3 and I need the car to accelerate as fast as possible.

I keep them new .

But the most common ratio is the 4.7.

4.7 ??? lol, where the feck did that come from? or is is a quaife/bespoke job?

i was only aware of the 4.53 being the "max" that GM produced for the small block gearbox.

i bet the new ones are a fair few shiney pennys

4.53's were found in Corsa B's, iirc they are found in Sport's/Gsi's.

The 4.53cwp was fitted to 1300/1400 Astramax vans.

Happily while searching my local scrapyard for a 100Amp alternator on Monday I came across one by acident on a J reg van. I now have a spare for my rally car and it only cost ?30.

You didn't need to know this of course.

Sorry.

whilst on the topic i have got used to my f15 box on my 1600 16v in the nova and am dissapointed with top end speed but happy about the bottom end acceleration, what should i be looking to do as i have only had 115mph out of it nd i find some 1400sr's n sri's come past me down the dual carriage way, tad embarrasing after i blew em off to start with?

the F15 is a trickier swap as you need to strip the output shaft down to swap the FD over.

if your that bothered about top speed then your car wouldnt accelerate fast lol.

you could try a slighty taller 5th gear so you can wind the pace up on it but not overly fast.

you may want to check your rule book to see if you can change your FD. according to haynes 1.4 just had 3.9 diffs so in theory you wouldnt even get away with a 4.1 diff. If this is never checked then I guess you are OK.
