decided too call in at the local aluminium scrapyard today and weigh my car, thinking with all the fibreglass and filler id be well over a ton! turned out it was 950 kilos just under a ton and at the moment scraps fetching 500 pound a ton (alloy) so that means my car.....

weighs 950 kg
worth 475 quid

bodykit fibre glass seems to weight a fcuk load though!
add in filler and the valver engine.
i can easily see it hitting near a ton.

mine shall weigh much less than 700Kg ;)

and why would the be paying alloy scrap value for a car made primarily from steel and composite materials?

more like ?40 imo

the only alloy on there is the wheels probably

Haven't had mine weighed lately but it was just over 800kg before the firbreglass panels, Polycarbinate windows and other bits getting taken off.

So its well under 800kg now. Not sure what though. I think its time to try and blag another go on the weighbridge.

aragon i was just seeing how much it was worth if it was alloy lol (joke?) i would of thought my car weighed over a ton as it still has original arches but fibreglass pannels filled over the top? no actual replacement pannels? i was pleased with the weight, carnt see how anybody can say its very heavy if its only about 100kilos heavier than standard? think everybody should go out this weekend and blag there way on a weigh bridge n surprise yourselves?

Yep, but consider the weight of the 4WD system....

My mates (FWD lol) GTi-6 is apparently something like 1320kgs!

Yea there is that, would the engine weigh alot? I mean its only a 2 litre isnt it but it obviously has a turbo and all that. My dads engine is just a huge heavy block of metal lol

Woldn't have thought the engine would weigh all that much, the turbo isn't that big lol. It is quite a large car though, a little over 1.7m x 4.4m. PAS, A/C, 4WD, the suspension and brakes as well (seen the size of the calipers? Yeah, they're as heavy as they look lol) all adds to the weight... tis worth it tho
