at the end of the day oil is oil unless u got in to more performance or advanced things

make sure its API SL and ACEA A2/B2 or A3/B3 rated at a minimum

anything lower (ie SF or SG) is basically sludge in a can and i wouldnt put it anywhere near an engine i wanted to keep

Yeah, but i don't let the engine above 3K until its warmed up.
Think i will just get some standard mineral oil, and check its the standard aragorn said.

Cheers for the replies :)

i generally dont limit revs (although i wouldnt wind it upto >5000rpm) while its cold, i just keep throttle angle down

the largest problem is coolant heats up about twice as quick as oil does so without an oil pressure guage uve no idea how hot it actually is

or even an oil temperature gauge ;)

halfords 15/40W is decent, as is VX 15/40W

infact VX 15/40 is facking good! but its a little pricey i think at ?3.99 for a 1litre top up bottle.

yer an oil temp guage is better but pressure is at least a guide

before i fitted mine i'd wait untill coolant temp said AOK and then gofor it

now its another 5mins or so driving after the coolant reaches full temp before it drops right down to 3bar at idle so i wait that bit longer before going for it now which helps ensure the oil is warmed up fully
