my mate bought my gsi 8v lump off me when rebuiling his car and after putting it in and running it he has found the engine management and choke light will come on and it will run really bad? i neva had this problem when it was in mine, what could it be?

Well firstly there isn't a 'choke' light on the gsi's as they dont have a choke! (multi point injection lol), so find out what that light actually is.

And for the engine management light, you need to read the fault codes given out by the ecu. I think there's a guide on the net for how to do that, just do a search on google. You basically just stick a a paperclip in some plug in the engine bay (sorry don't know where lol) and the engine management light will flash a certain number of times and that'll tell you what's wrong (what sensor has failed). Hope that helps

so obviously someones just stuck a bulb in the choke light too
