Most of you will have at one point heard me bitch about the Wee Devil. Basicially its like this.

1.4 8v, ported and polished head, 270deg cam, new head internals and a 14sr carb.

or
1.4SR, std engine, already own two for spare engines.

or
1600 8v SPI Cav, low milage and FSH, e100.

Should i fix the firts, just bung in the second or build the third and tune it?

I've spent lots of time and effort on the first and its still not right, the second has been laid up for a long time and will need a rebuild and the third is atill only a 1600 spi and if i was to tune it, how could i gt more power Carb wise?

PS please dont say twin40s as this is not really an option as they're rarer that Rocking horse shit!!

Definately go for this one, but if you can get hold of a Weber 34/32 DTML it'll run/drive better and up your performance.

Please don't touch the cav spi engine. Basically, they're shit lol.

The 2nd one needs a rebuild anyway, so just put some more effort into the 1st one. Why won't the 1st one run?

Yeah, you're right i guess. But what about the 1600, i can port the head, fit the 1400 cam and 4 branch, wouldn't it be any good then?

the 1.4 sr lumps still a better engine mate than the cav 1.6 spi

The cav spi only puts out 90BHP standard and iirc they are a big block engine so will be slow as feck and throw your handling out.

Stick with the sr engine and if you really want some performance out of it put a 1.4 sri head on it (much better flow than the sr head) and fit a weber 32/34 dtml (you can pick them up for quite cheap and will definately give an increase in power and driveablility).

Now, this is where i'm getting confused. Is the SRi head different from the MPi head, and if so, how? SRi heads are going to be very difficult to find over here,, as are Weber 32/34s but i did manage to get an XR3 Weber Carb though.

The sri head IS an MPI head. It also has round ports which flow a lot better than the square ports in a 1.4 sr head. You could get the weber 34/32 from ebay? As for the xr3 weber carb, you'd need to have a custom inlet manifold made up to fit it.

the xr3 carb is a weber 32/34 is it not?

if so you#ll simply need the fitting kit for a 13sr nova

and a 13sr inlet manifold wont fit a mpi head properly

so u'd be best forgetting about the SRi head unless u want 40's and simply fitting a 1200 carb head with 13sr inlet manifold and weber adaptor plate

I think the XR3 carb is a weber 28/30.
I may be wrong tho

I'd really prefer to get my 1400 going right, after all i dont need to get anything else for it, ie new head etc. The XR3 weber is a 32/34, and i know i'm gonna need a Sr inlet, but will my 14sr inlet not work?

Would a busted head Gasket cause compression problems? The cars not over heating though.

ok the 32/34 will fit onto a 1400sr motor just fine

use the original 1400sr inlet manifold and the weber adaptor plate

as for the compression the gasket can go between cylinders which would normally show as a drop between 2:

100 100 40 40

like that

but if the heads just been skimmed and fitted with a new gasket i find it hard to believe its failed already? unless it wasnt torqued down right

No they aint, i had two sets until 2 weeks ago, sold one pair. They are freely avaliable and very easy to get hold of. Ebay always has pairs on for sale.

Great stuff lads, i'll have it looked into. Could be Webered up yet, Keith, if you do come on another set of twin 40's please please keep me in mind, also an SRi head if you find one.

I'll keep you posted lads.
