Overrun

i have a problem with the car and im sure its the timing that needs doing despite the fact that the local garage says my timing will be fine. he hasnt checked it properly but says the engine would be really lumpy if the timing was out.

anyway its using loadsa fuel and overruns when you turn off the engine, could it be anything else besides the timing?
