Which Engine Model is this

i Bought a GSi of a young Lady bout 3weeks ago, and after lookin at the damage felt it was 2much 2 repair, so i've decided to drop the engine into my 1.4 luxe due to engine need rebuild, so just wantin to know which engine this 1.6 lump is??

it dont have a cat or airflow meter, can sum one help me please

its a C16SE and should have a CAT and a lambda sensor

the cat may have been replaced however if its a K-Plate motor it really should be there for MOT

looks like the 1.4 sri engine to me... have a look on the block, bottom right corner , to the right of the 4th spark plug; there be some numbers/letters. That'd tell ya.

sri engines (c14se) and late gsi engines (c16se) do look very similar. Best way to tell is by looking at the code on the engine block, but tbh if you know for sure that it is a 1.6 then it is a c16se.

That is a c16se. They didnt make sri in grey but made gsi that colour.

i'd say that was silk-violet. Look on the engine block by the dipstick.

yeah is a silk violet, engine is out of the motor, i'll have a look 2moz, just spent 4 hours takin out my 1.4 limp, wot a pain in the ass, i've had 2 change the steerin coz when i undid the pass side bolt the centre just spun round so got pissewd off and gas axed it off, so lump should be in 2moz and all working,

if the cat isnt their dont worry i have been told mot stations can test cars up to 1995 without a cat by going to a 2 gas test. but thats what i ve herd will wont find out for my self till next year

basically if the car is after 1993 (and the follow the rule book to the letter) they need to select the engine thats fitted to the car from the list

a 1994 nova with a 12ST engine would not need a cat test as only the C12NZ, C14NZ, C14SE and C16SE are on the list for novas

u dont even need to prove the age of the engine if its engine number isnt on the list, it automatically gets a non-cat test
