I was offered one of these today as an alternitave to my modd'd 1400. Is it worth the hassle and whats involved mounting wise for the engine and box? Does it fit or am i welding and cutting?

its a shit engine mate

big block means more weight and 1800 means more tax, and its only producing 90bhp

stick with the 1400 imo

1.8 engine can you tell the engine code it can be the same engine from a kadett GTE 1.8 whit 130 hp its possible

it was actually the 2.0 SEH engine from early cav's and astra's that had 130bhp

And of course the SEH engine is a good engine so it would be better to have one of those, but as aaragon said more tax on larger engines

Was thinking that myself. Anyway my mechanics fault, his problem. While its being rebuilt, anything i should do for a few extra horsies cheap as possible? I hear MPI Valves are a better job, would i need pistons as well? Where can they be got?

if your on about your 1.4 then get a 1.4 sri head to go on, benji did this and gave him an extra 10bhp i think.

Is that the same as the MPi Head or how does it differ?

How do you mean Engine code, what do i need this for? Its a 1400 spi bottom end from a 92 Astra with a Kadett 1400 head, ported with a 270deg Kent Cam. As far as i knew all the 1400 bottom ends are the same.

hes still going on about the cav engine

anyway if u use an MPI head u will either have to switch to twin carbs or run the full EFI setup from the mpi engine

it will bolt onto the spi block just fine

Ughh, back to this again!!

Its not easy at all. I've SR Carbs at the mo, i know these aren't the best to use but what are, twin 40's are out of my budget and i've a Weber 32/34 off an XR3 but i and everyone else, doesn't know if it'll work.

if yuo can'rt afford T40's then stick with what you got. Changing to an Sri head is not really an option if you don't want 40's.

Consider a 1.2 head, with mild head work if you can afford it.

Was thinking that, the head work wouldn't be a problem, but I've a 270 deg cam in the 1400, this wont fit the 1200 head, i know the 4 branch will, but will it work out with less power that the 1400 would if i get it rebuilt?

And, exactly what will the CC be if i use a 1200 head?

the cam will fit the 1200 just fine

the head has nothing to do with the cambox... they are 2 seperate components

if u run the carb head you'll need to use a 1300sr inlet manifold and a 1400sr carb, spi wont bolt streight on as the ports are totally different

i think he's running a pierburg 2e3, so all you would need is to get a 1.3 inlet manifold and bolt the carb you got onto it.

Is the 1300sr and the 1400sr inlet different?
