LOL, an example would be nice?

A classic one I remember is a woman (sorry ladies) phoning a helpdesk saying her pc had just switched off by itself. When the helpdesk person went through the usual steps he asked her to check the lead hadn't fallen out the back of the pc, the lady said she couldn't see if it had. The helpdesk asked why she couldn't see and she replied "We've just had a power cut and all the lights have gone out"

Bless her...

Jim

had a crap day anyway and then i get a call, i get her to go into control panel, and i ask her to click add remove programs, Dodgey forign accent " Its not there" i establish shes on xp and make sure its on classic mode, even though u still see add remove, 5 minutes of checking her permissions on the server to make sure she can access it, thats all fine

i ask her to read whats in there, and the third on is add remove programs......so she wasted my time, DICK

lol - classic

I had one lady (again sorry) who needed to boot from a floppy, one of the old 5 1/4" ones. She was having problems. I asked her if she had taken it out of its sleve and she said yes, asked a few more questions. But she said it wouldn't go in the drive very well. She said it was a bit floppy. Then the penny droped. I asked her what shape the disc was. Round came back the reply. So I finished the call got a new boot disc and went to give her a new disc.

She had taken some sissors to the disc cut open the cover and got the actual disc out of its casing!!

I also used to go on site to fix ACD's (Big telephone systems). Went to London Regonal Transport where a port had gone down. One bloke there was a real pain in the ass. So I connected his headset to the faulty port. It was only giving static noise. I leaned out of the room so that I could see him and pressed enter. He shot off backwards throwing his headset across the room :D had to stop laughing before I went and asked what happened. He said he got an electric shock. Pillock!!

One of my pet hates is explaining technical stuff to non-technical people.

The ones I used to really hate where the fiddlers. You be telling them to do something simple and you could hear them in the background typing loads or doing extra stuff. That used to annoy me.
