just spotted this on the reviewcentre.com has to be the biggest pile of B***Sh*t i've ever read

"I have a Mercedes Black Vauxhall Nova 1.4. GSI front bumper & spoiler with GTE rear bumper & side skirts. Eibach 55mm lowering kit & black 15" Mille Miglia 'Spider' alloys. The engine had a complete re-build with a Kent AST22 hi-lift cam added. The inlet manifold was modded to take a Weber 32/34 TLDE twin-choke carb from a Fiat Tipo. A lightened flywheel & pulley were installed along with an F13 close-ratio gearbox. Calibra Turbo front calipers with Tarox grooved discs & uprated rear drums.
The result... 0-60MPH 8.92s; 1/4 mile 12.64s @ 113MPH. Top speed is 152MPH. It was kicking out 168BHP at the flywheel and 120BHP (approx) at the wheels. I've recently modded the ECU setup, re-jetted the carb and bored out the inlet/outlet manifolds. It's now rolling-roaded at approx 146BHP at the wheels with 180BHP at the flywheel. I'm going to re-test my 0-60 and 1/4 mile this weekend to see how much of an improvement there is.
OK, people may think this is bull or a waste of hard earned ??? but this car has cost me less than the price of a used cossie or VTS. My little nova kills most hot hatches with the exception of the Williams Clio. It obliterates XR2's, XR3's, VTR's, VTS's, Punto's, 5GTT's, 205GTI's and also most nova's I come across.

VERDICT: The car miles ahead.....IS MINE!!!"

Damn right i think this is bull. and since when does a 12.6 1/4 not beat a williams clio

Clearly he's found a seriously modded one to race!

last time i took on a williams Cilo down the pod she, yes i said SHE, ran a 15.2 (this was USC last year, tring to remeber!) to my poor 17 sec run! hum, he got any picture up of it? and proof?

mmm now why take off the mpi manifold etc to fit the carb, when its going to drop the power ? lmao classy.

I want to go to his RR!!!!!!
i bet hes using a G-Tech meter thing.

just read it again, and in the risk of sounding silly as i'm not 100% on this, but surely taking the MPI off and replacing it with a Carb would mean no need for the ECU? or am i barking up the wrong tree?

I was going to say maybe its atype on the 1/4mile time, he meant to put 15 instead of 12, but his terminal speed is about right for the 12 second 1/4 mile time hes quoting.

I think this person has basically gathered figures from other Novas that he's seen on various sites. His claimed 168bhp is the same read out I got. His 1/4mile time looks similar to the 2.0 Turbo Nova that ran at PV.

Bless him, tell him to scan his slips or something.

ive clearly gone for wrong engine in mine. Although his 0-60 is nothing special, really not sure how he got the 12.6 1/4. Plus a nova with 180 bhp would rape a clio

and he can wipe the floor with a R5 GTT but not a clio williams?

All that and he isnt even running twin 40s. With twin 40s it would be pushing 200 bhp easy.

how can he rejet a carb and mod his ECU?? :|

one will cancel out the other?? carb = NO ECU??

Hey oli did you not find this part the most amusing??

A lightened flywheel & pulley were installed along with an F13 close-ratio gearbox / Top speed is 152MPH Feck i must get a close ratio box that can do the imposible on mine!

Scott

PS: dose this review of a 106 1.4 sxi sound real as well?

Bad Points
Truly bad build quality

^^ as much as i want to agree with that, have you actually worked on a french car before?

NovalutionGSi
15-06-05, 01:51 PM
honestly, no.....and dont want to, well unless you call helpping a mate install his install to his VTS?? althou he's had all kinds of things wrong with it. and hearing how thin the metal its made of i personally wouldnt touch a french car. not saying they are bad cars, as some of them arnt. and if my missus saw me writing this she'd kill me as she drives a 106GTi (althou she didnt do bad with 2 novas before hand.)

i'l shut up now on french cars!

Philsutton
15-06-05, 02:05 PM
oh you were on about the french car opps, ah well. Moral of the story is the french design a car to work an then they go back an make it impossible to work on. I.e you'll have a very important bolt that you need to get to quite often but they ram about 50 other things in front of it so you cant get it with out dropping the engine out.

NovalutionGSi
15-06-05, 02:12 PM
so in a round about way you are agreeing just showing me what i've missed from not working on french cars!

Dar

I can second that!!!

I need to change the clutch cable on my 306 GTI-6 and you can get to 99% of it fairly easy. Mind you you still have to take the battery, tray and ecu out of the car to get to it.

But then the cable is clipped in right up behind the exhaust manifold, behind some pipes and the break servo. Oh and also behind a heat shield. Nice eh!

I asked a Peugeot mechanic why the hell he works for Peugeot becuase they are pigs to work on and his answer was - once you can work on these things you can work on anything!

LMAO.. best bit of fiction ive read in years!

lets just get this cal

Vauxhall Nova 1.4 & The inlet manifold was modded to take a Weber 32/34 TLDE twin-choke carb from a Fiat Tipo.
So either hes done MAJOR work to a MPI inlet (ie impossible mod) or the car is a SPi (no power to start with)

F13 close-ratio gearbox. Top speed is 152MPH.
only possible if its running ENORMOUS tyres or it revs to about 10000rpm

0-60MPH 8.92s; 1/4 mile 12.64s @ 113MPHTop - 168BHP at the flywheel
Chris S is running 300+ and gets a 12.5.. no need to get calulators out for that 1

I've recently modded the ECU setup, re-jetted the carb and bored out the inlet/outlet manifolds
AS stated by peeps above - slight contridictipon there.

My little nova kills most hot hatches with the exception of the Williams Clio.
a standard XE running 150 brake should do williams with mild ease

Some peeps just 'pub talk' far too much

Dpnova
15-06-05, 03:19 PM
its quite clear hes talking bollox, why are people picking holes in how hes made 180bhp, its justt not the case is it

Ill second Dar and Phil on the french cars. My dads got a renault 21 estate and they put the radiator in one wank place. Theres a panel you have to undo then you have to remove part of the front bumper and then its still a bastard to get out.
