just a quick one .............why does the firing order "shown" work?, iv asked this before, but i want to show you all a pic of proof that this is the firing order and it works "ok", i just want to know is the haynes wrong, or do i have a serious problem with it?

Haynes can't be wrong, someone would have noticed by now.
That pic don't really show anything, which cylinder is each lead going to?

well from left to right its 1234, but if you look closley the cap goes1342, from a further on position from what the haynes says i promise you the hasynes is wrong or my car has problem, it works "okish", but it wont work in any other position and its clockwise not anti clockwise
the pick is quite good really the cables disappers behind the air filter in order 1234 just follow them, WHATS GOING ON WITH MA CAR!

The firing order is clockwise.
4 top right
2 bottom right
3 top left
1 bottom left.
So 1342 from no.1 at the bottom left of dizzy.
Put it like that, and it will work

I can't really see your 1L being different to every other 1L every made
but you never know

If it don't work in the right order, then something else is wrong.
Has the engine ever run properly?

it IS like long lives alighment but everythings just rotated round slightly

if you take top right to mean the right most plug on the dizzy it makes sense

the right most plug goes to cylinder 4 and it goes in 1342 in a clockwise direction from there

Yeah, i was referring to top right, as top right plug on dizzy cap.

Alex-Yeah, could of been wrong but surely mistakes are spotted few weeks after release, the earliest nova manuals must of been out for quite a while now

but on his photo there is no top right

his pic shows left, middle top, middle bottom and right

and your "top right" refers to "right" on his photo

Yeah
i should of said
my top right is when the vacuum advance thingy is on the right hand side when looking at the dizzy.
Nevermind anyways.
Alxlaw-If it don't work in the correct places, then you have another problem.

Time the engine so its at tdc, the rotor arm should be pointing to no1. Put the dizzy cap on and put the leads on starting from there going round 1 to 1, 3 to 3 and so on

alxlaw

no im saying its in the "wrong order" according to the haynes, i just want to know wether this is normal for the firing order to change in this way or wether i need to get it checked out

you sure your not accidentally looking at the wrong part of haynes?

i dont have mine to hand but 1.0 is differnent to the OHC alignment so perhaps youve seen the ohc alignment and tried that one instead?

if haynes defo says different to what you have then ignore it as its blatantly wrong

Adam

The lead position i gave is the exact one out the haynes, i just checked it  for the 1L OHV engine.

have you checked the timing,it can cause fire and smoke from carb if it,s out :?:

It don't work tho, he says it only just runs and doesn't run correctly.

iv had a mechanic round who scrached his head for a bit and asked if the engine had over heated to exces in the past i said yes about a year ago, i never really knew what they did that cost 300 quid but it workedthe guy went on to say (his words) when you f**k an engine to such an extent everything has to come out he said the last lot of mechanices might have put it in a differnt order just for ease?, he told me to buy spark plugs n ht leads so i did n thats fixed the misfireing proplem kind of?!?!?!...........its still in the "wrong"* order tho?

*haynes deems it to be wrong

iv been lookin at that digram in the haynes and i just dont understand how my engine can phisically run i dont particulally trust this mechanic that came round and his diagnosis seems a bit farfeched, but theres definatly something going on!!!!!!!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

FFS!!! will you please listen to what people with knowledge are telling you. It is not timed up wrong. It wouldnt run (not without pops and bangs)

Try this

i had 2 leads the wrong way round on my bro's 1.2 and it started and wouldnt rev at all

full throttle revved it upto about 1500rpm then it kicked out a huge bang and stopped

the ordering is fine, the diagram in the haynes will just be rotated slightly from the aspect your looking at

alxlaw

so what your saying is...............................haynes is wrong!
