View Full Version : 1600 GTE/GSi head on 1400 SR
1600 GTE/GSi head on 1400 SR :?:
is this spossible, as ive been offered a ported and gasflowed 1600 head for seriously cheap but ive got a 1400 SR.
will they even match up + will the irmicher inlet Sport manifold for T40s go on a 1600 head??
any help is much appreciated folks.
mike.

have had the chance before to look at the 2 heads side by side.
in my opinion there are oil ways etc that will not match the block etc without abit of work. but i could be wrong.
and i thought the normal route was the 1.3 SR head on the 1.4 block?

i asked this b4 as i have an sr and was told it wouldnt work very well, something about compression i think

could well be.
must admit talking to a guy a while back about his Stock car 1400cc nova.
he had rebuilt the engine as follows 1400 block, with 1300 head. now this bit i cant get in my head, with 1200 pistons, making its a 1420?? with a compression ratio of something silly like 14:1! wouldnt advise that for a day to day car thou!

that doesnt make sense to me, but maybe he did know what he was talking about lol :?

thats right, i think you also use a 1300 crank and rods but not 100% on that one

1300 and 1400 cranks are the same
but u may well need to use 1300 rods to bring the stroke back up (and 1400 rods wont fit 1200 carb pistons)
u'd be easier just fitting +0.5mm sr pistons tbh as that would give even more capacity than the 1.2 ones (which are 0.2mm larger)
and fitting a 1600 head would lower the compression a bit but matching up the manifolds would be more worrying

well i was almost there! was listerning and like i said was a few years ago, dam i still had my SR swap shop! :o
exhuast should be easy to do, get hold of an GSi/SRi downpipe and then centre section and jobs a gooden! i'd be more worried on the oil and water ways lining up. dont wanna get it together and find the cam was getting no oil etc.
