depends on what bumper it is. If its the standard vauxhall nova bumper - the plastic bit is mounted onto a carriage bar that bolts through the rear body work and is screwed from the inside via 2 holes. The sides are held in place by plastic blocks that clip onto the bumper and are screwed from the inside edge of rear arches...buggers to get 2.

If it's a fibreglass bumper then you could see whether it'll fit directly over an existing bumper - in which case most people either pot rivit edges after smearing inside with tiger seal or mastick or similar - alternatively, you can cut the existing bumper down so youre left with just the carriage part and sections of the old one for support (makes in lighter).

Or you can attach (known as bodging) the carriage bar and side sections on to the skin...

Does it look like this?

If it does then it should have a few mounting bolts.

Probably your best bet would be the carriage out of an existing bumper and fix it inside your new one. It should make it a little stronger.

No its not the same as that, but it is slightly similar, just smaller. They guy im having it off has told me that there are no mounts for the bumper currently and I would have to add them. Is this a job that I could do myself (quite easily) or is it something best left to the garage??

tbh it all depends on the quality of the kit. If its thin then it'll be all floppy so youre best bonding it to an existing bumper.

You need to find out from him if is designed to fit onto the existing bumper or whether it can be fitted on its own (with addition of mountings).

If its the 1st then theres no probs

If its the second, like Matt said, you'll need to attach the old carriage bar and side mounts to it 1st. This isnt a tricky probelm if youre okay using fibreglass to bond the carriage bar to it.

Alternatively like I said before, cut youre old one down to fit the new one on top of - just cut the plastic away leaving the area round the carriage bar, the area above this (the bit between the boot lid) and the area on the sides where the mounting brackets are - remember to leave the sides connected to the back bit

if youre not sure get a garage to do it - they can prep it (fibreglass kits always need finishing) and spray it for you too
