I know it sounds silly but my plan is to get a 1.4 16v and get in upto at least 150bhp  :D . I wanted to make my 1.3 into a 16v but it was gonna be too hard and too much hasstle.
What I wanna know is wud a 1.4 16v from a corsa fit straight in :| ? Could i use my 1.3 gearbox, if not what one would I be best to get? I know im gonna need a turbo, some im gonna need new pistons. Anyone got any idea where to (*beep*) you get new pistons from??
I know it may sound stupid, but im not very mechanically minded :? .
Cheers ppl.

If i'm right its probably not worth it as you would need to spend serious amounts of money for very very small performance gains. You'd do better to either spend the money on a 1.6 engine or a 2.0ltr xe engine transplant and put some money aside for extra insurance.

I was going to go for the 2.0 from a calibra but then i rang my insurance company :( . I might go for a 1.6 although a 1.4 runnin 150bhp wud be dif and gr8.
look for CP's car in the "sport" section of the features.
thats a V high power 1400, also look for big Russ's car, again high power 1400.
no turbo is needed!!!!!, just good head work, good cams, proper strong bottom end rebuild with high compression pistons, Throttle bodies, Standalone engine management and a very light shell. Should cost the scary side of ?5-6K for a semi decent setup. you could skip some of the stuff by fitting weber T45's but you will only make marginal money savings.

its possible the 1.3 egine existe whit 140 hp non turbo
whit turbo existe one whit 180
Imagen, a 150bhp 1400 Nova, Thats what i wanna go for, try and see off a few V-Techs. Corsa Sports and Tigra's have them. As far as i know they're about 100 or so BHP standard anyway! You dont even need to change the engine mounts!! You'd pic up a smashed Tigra from about 500 quid as well.[img]

its not impossible to get power from the 1400 16v corsa sport engine. something like 96bhp standard and iv read that you can quite easily push 140bhp in them, mayb more
150 is actually a fairly low target to be aiming for from the 1400, if youve not looked at the 2 cars i mentioned further up the page, then do so!!!!
its just going to cost you a fair bit of money thats all.

Im not sure how much engine work to do. Im thinking of wacking in something like a T34 turbo and some low comp pistons and seeing where it gets me. My car is gr8 at the mo and goes down well at cruises, just wanna do somthing away from the norm if u get me. :D
i agree with stu, if your serious lookat those 2 cars and lube up
I'd sy go for it if you have the money, as it's achievable
but if mney is a problem, you could try a 1.6 8v , with carbs some decent headwork and a decent cam you could see up around the 135-140bhp mark.
After all, you don't see that many 1.6 T40's around
if you want to be different it will cost you more dolla! i had the choice of 1600 8v on 40s or 2ltr, i choose 1600 and the engine so far has cost me a good 700-900 and its not even finished
Imagen, a 150bhp 1400 Nova, Thats what i wanna go for...
I have been in BigRuss's nova and its about 170bhp froma 1400 16v...and it is totally stripped out with lightweight everything.
It really does go like f*ck
9000rpm rev limit (rev needle goes vertically down, lol)!
awesome machine but serious wedge
You'd do better to either spend the money on a 1.6 engine or a 2.0ltr xe engine transplant and put some money aside for extra insurance.
If you're heavily modifying the engine then forgt about extra cc = higher insurance group, no matter what cc you have its still gonna cost top dollar

I have the money, its gonna be my project. I have 10g's to spend on me nova and I want it to be show material. Iva decided on doing pistons and cams with a large turbo, HKS dump valve etc. Ive been told that 180-190bhp :?: is what my engine could be pumping out with a lot of help from the turbo.
Would the 1.4 box take the power.....Only one way to find out I guess.
if you ahve that money to throw at it then buy a Quaife SCCr gearbox with a 3.94ish FD so you get some top speed as im sure you care about that more lol.
the quaife cluster will be much stronger than the std gear clsuters. looking at about ?1K for the cluster, oh and dont forget to add the diff too.
if your doing it properly then the engine and gearbox will eat all of that 10K lol
Thats the trouble really, you can spend loads of wedge on all this power, but your box just wont stick the punishment. Im running 200+ horsepower and already pretty much killed my second F20, what 180 horses would do to a 1400 box is anyones guess  . Like you said, suck it and see, but id do what im doing and start saving for something out of Mr Quaife's shed

You think a 1.4 would manage to spool a turbo that big?

And Escort Cossies!!
i thought as much. wunt b lasting very long on a little nova engine i can tell you that much lol
Dont know if youd get it spinning enough to do loads of damage, although i know as much about turbo's as Ghandi knows about Hush Puppies!

LMAO, me 2
Sounds to me like this lad just wants a turbo on his car. For his budget he could build a strong reliable N/A engine that will develop the kind of BHP that he's after, however he seems intent on just wacking a huge turbo on the engine :|
Jim
Hmm,Renault 5 comes to mind thinking of turboed 1.4's.
Ah well, horses for courses and all that.
Speak to Protec performance
They currently have a customers rally car in being built runnin 190ish BHP
Thats a 1.4 16v on jenveys!
I love the thing its absolutely stunning!

If you cant get insurance, you gonna have difficulty insuring any car with a turbo, let alone a converted engine
IMO, you'd be best off saving your money until you can get a reasonable insurance quote and then buildthe engine you want

There is a company in peterborough that are going to build up my engine for me. Its gonna cost me a bit but it will be worth it in the end. I might have to go for a smaller turbo tho. If all else fails ill just wack the cash on the exterier. :!: 8)

10k on a nova? alot of money mate
You'l never be content with a 1.4 for the rest of your days
I don't intend sending massive amount on my 1.6 8v t40 because i know in a few years i'l be wanting a more extreme conversion i.e maybe a LET or an XE.
I think spending 10k a nova that your undoubtably going to get bored of and never beable to sell on for 10k is a waste of money IMO !
good luck to you if you go ahead with it, buy it'd seriously consider it's viability first !

you can get a 1.4 to hit 150bhp at 8000rpm as longe as its built properly and with about 1.6bar boost ull get 1.4 to hit 150bhp at about 5500 rpm u might be able to do it less bost depending.
but thats alot of money to spend on a 1.4
