Hello.

A bit of an intro, seeing as I am buying a Nova and will be on here a bit now.

This will be my third Nova. Bought my first in 1996 (1985 C plate 1.2 Helios Blue Merit), got rid of that quite quickly as I bought a 1991 H plate Flame Red 1.5 TD Merit a year later. Drove that one daily for 5 years!

Due to a dodgy mechanic or two who I let work on the TD (long story!) I gave that car up as it was getting unreliable and I couldn't afford to keep fixing it. Apart from the gearbox (which was the problem) it was a bloody minter for an 11 year old car when I sold it. I'd put 3 spokes on it, Red/Grey SRi interior, GSi spoiler, GSi suspension, GTE anti roll bar, 3 spoke steering wheel, red dash switches, decent ICE etc.... I ought to find a picture.

Anyway, I've had two new MINI's since. My current Cooper is ?18,000 worth and specced to the hilt, but due to probable change of circumstances in the near future I am going to give it up to become debt free. I also hate getting 35mpg out of a car no quicker than my old TD! :D

Buying a 1992 K plate Met Blue TD Merit with 75,000 on the clock ATM and intend on giving it the same 'mod' treatment as my old TD. Just posted a cheque for it having bought it blind, but the pictures I've seen of it make it look VERY clean, if totally bog standard.

Looking forward to it all. Suppose I'll have to get 'un-used' to some of the creature comforts I've had these last couple of years in the MINI's though.

I'm 30, BTW. Am I the old bloke here? I suspect I probably am.

Here's a few of the old beast at various points in it's life - including the damaged caused when the rear end of a Mondeo carelessly embedded itself into the front of my Nova. ;)

Welcome back to the world of Nova ownership. But be prepared for rust, something you wont have heard of on your new mini's!

Hope you enjoy your stay on NL, keep us posted!

Oh God, I remember rust... My 1.2 was quite badly affected and I remember having to rebuild the small section of metalwork coming off the inner front wheel arch towards the front of the wing area with fibreglass filler because 70% of it wasn't there any more!

I also remember a non stop job of keeping the rear wheel arches in some kind of decent fettle and trying in vain to stop an inside to outside rust bubble line on the passenger door... Of course, you can't stop it and I had to have an outer door skin later on as it got worse.

What makes it a little odd is that I haven't even seen the new car for real yet. Just a handful of photos, which, although there aren't any real close ups, seem to show a 12 year old car in very good nick. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the warm welcome. :)

Welcome mate. But seriously novas main rust spots arent in the view of the eye. Many rust underneath. Thats why id never buy a car until i had fully checked it over. When i bought my gsi of ebay i didnt hand any cash over till i had looked at it properly .
