Nova cylinder heads

Hi All,

Got 1.4 SPi J Reg and the cambelt snapped,

So need a new cylinder head, what Vauxhalls have the same cylinder head to the 1.4i ?
Ie Astra Corsa and does Carb, MPi SPi make a difference to the inlet manifold fittings on the head?

Also what BHP are the other 1.4 8v vauxhalls, as the 1.4i Nova is a poor 60bhp :(
So say fitting an Astra head or a SRi Nova head would give a few more bhp as a bonus.

the 1.4sr has the same cylinder head and u may as well take the camshaft while your there as taht will give a nice undetectable improvement in power

1400 cavalier and 1400 mk2 astras also have the same head and cam as the SR so these are the best bet

mk3 1.4 astras and 1.4 corsa spi's (not mpi engines) will have the same head and cam as u have now too but these are a last resort compared with the SR head

Not seen any SR nova in the scrappy for ages now, 1400 cav astra sound good but this sounds like the mk1s? which will be just as rare.
Whats regs and years are the 1400 cavs and astras and what do the badge say n the back? are these the B to G reg kinda of cars?

Theres loads of mk3 cavs and mk3 astras in the scrappy, so the 1.4 SPi ones are all 60bhp versions?

are 1600 vauxhalls suitable? ie GSi nov, cavs astras?

1600 spi will work and should give a little power increase as the valves are larger however you'd need to check the combustion chamber size against the 1400 head gasket and measure the clearance volume between the two

Do you know the regs of the 1400 vauxhals with the same engine as the SR? Would like a tad of extra power

The car is stuck in a field where it snapped at about 15mph :( So need to get it sorted before someone finds it Lol Its hidden from sight and we got permission but its a worry. Removed the TSW wheels and its got the 145s on again !!!!

I hope the pistons arn't damaged!

well early mk3 cavaliers around e-h plate will have the 14nv

any 1400 mk2 astra (again e-j ish)

or u can use a mk3 astra 1.4 head

if u want more power u should look at getting a cam from either a 14nv, E16SE (nova gte/gsi), C14SE (nova sri, corsa sri, astra 1.4mpi),C16SE (astra 1.6mpi, nova gsi) as these are all much nicer grinds than the 1.4spi cam

not sure how happy the ECU will be with an sr (carbed) cam? Only 1 way to find out i suppose.

ive put a GTE cam in my bro's 1.2i and its fine

im rebuilding an astra 1.4 engine for my GF and put a 14sr cam in that so i'll find out soon enough lol
