Some companies do ask for the current mileage when you renew or take up a quote (espcially in the case of limited mileage policies). They then cover you for the milage you've asked for, in Adam's case 3k. Anything after that you're considered not covered for - if you have to claim and the insurance company find out you've done 3,500 miles then they can refuse to pay out.

oh dear, lol my mates policy started with just using his car for college, thus doing no more than 50 miles a week tops lol. The woman put him down for 1000 miles policy and now he works about 30 mins drive away full time haha :D
