I have a 1.2carb(now twin 40's) nova Luxe on a J reg, it has the later corsa type REAR brakes, Because of all the mods to the engine i need better brakes, I have got Astra 2.0 16v calipers and vented discs/pads, goodridge braided hoses, new lines and synthetic 5.something brake fluid, I recently bought a Gsi Brake master cylinder/servo as its supposed to be more powerfull than the standard nova M.cylinder/servo. When i got the new M.cylinder/ser(which is definately from a GSI) It looks absolutely identical to my original one, it did'nt have the silver casting that joins it to the bulk head(which has some numbers stamped in).

My Question is.. how can you tell the difference between a standard M.cylinder/servo and a GSi one :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
are there any numbers stamped that give it away :?: :?: :?: :?:
Because my nova is a late Mk2 with corsa did it already have the stronger set-up :?: :?: :?:

Obviously i want to know asap as i don't want to swap them if i don't need to :!:

also is any-one running a similar set-up as mine and if so what difference did you find over standard brakes, what pads and discs did you find give the best results :?: i know the above is the same set-up as the rally cars use.

 :!: :!: Please email me if you can answer any of the above as i want to get cracking fitting this stuff as i would like to live if i need to stop the car quickly, a 126,000 tonne oil tanker out-braked me the other day!!!!!
:shocked!:

GSis had standard nova servos. only the GTEs had the bigger more powerful servos.

the silver casting should remain on the car, and the servo should be unbolted from it.

The servo i bought was definately listed as being :

'more powerfull than the standard one'
'an ideal upgrade'

The guy i had it off is usually great and he rallies nova's so i would have thought he knew his stuff??

a) chill the fcuk out lol

now, explain "how" the brakes you currently have are crap?
Most people run them fine, Dan has the std servo and master cylinder with the 256mm brakes and it stops fine.

prehaps youve not bot the brake lever setup right. you can adjust how "on" the brakes are with the linkage behind the dash.

CP uses(d) the standard servo and Ms with his wilwood 4pots up front and 2pots at the back with no problems stopping.

you can get a 22mm (i think) cylinder from the cav non abs. but you will need to do the research yourself.

Also as a note the servo wont make a blind bit of difference to the braking ability of the car. its like power steering, you dont need it but its nice

all nova master cylinders are the same

the GTE/GSI/SRi/TD had a larger servo which measures 200mm

the standard nova servo measures 180mm

so measure both and see if there is a difference, if they are both 180 then the blokes humped you

if they are both 200 u already have the GTE/GSi setup on the car
