the engines on the blink again and i have ran out of ideas, basicaly battary leaks when i turn the key and iv had trouble starting 4 ages so - replaced battary- same problem, replaced wiring on the off chance of a short - found non, engine still not starting properly(ie when i turn the key it rolls over really slowly, and then suddenly starts?!?!?!?!) or dosent and runs the battary flat, iv also just fitted a new steering wheel and a laguna splitta so its now a good lookin shed on wheels(i cant get it of the drive with it on laguna splitta on  hahaha) anyway i was wondering if there were any common problems with the tiddler 8v that i have overlooked (the alternater is fine had it tested too), i recon it summat to do with the starter motor sorry if this is confusinghttp://storage.msn.com/s1pZ8pl_R1n1zG2AzZ3anuk2va78n-urnsoP2H5GEXhXwwszDgTRFYet3tzf34MiKTjNBSDgFuy9Tq_Z mDBTazdOw/00.jpg?MdToken=473128581607613

i'd say it sounds like a starter motor problem, get it looked at, or check it yourself

check the earth strap, and the coil. they cause most problems
the battery could be tatered. most decent motor shops can 'load' test it as opposed to volt test it.

well i went out last nite and un-did it but couldnt for the life of me get it out?!?!?! it was wedged behind the exaust manifold for about an hour whilst i panicked :x so i sanded down all the contacts and inspected the little cog thingy that sticks out of the starter motor and all was well, well to be honist i didnt know what i was looking for so i turned the engine over just to see if the starter motor would move freely if it was disconected from the engine and it moved round fine?, unless it was a fluke or because there was no strain on it i dunno,
a "mate of mine" says its the battary n i should just replace it but short of calling a mechanic out to it and squeezin ma plastic dry! grrrrr i shud just bite the bullit n wak the 1.6 in that worked fine!, but id never afford the insurance :( i bloody hate that 993cc bag oh shite, not only is it pathetic and under powerd its also un-reliable and bloody heavy?, what where gm thinking! advice plz guys

im gonna take a hamma to it soon!

if its the earth strap it will turn fine with no load(ie removed) as the motor isnt drawing anywhere near the same current

try clamping a jump lead between the battery negative and the engine block somewhere (or 2 jump leads if they are skinny shit ones) and see if that makes a difference to cranking

I think you should bite the bullet & put the 1.6 in! or at least a 1.2 should only cost about ?80 from the breakers. Problem solved!

right i did that thing with the jump lead - and the batary cracked and leaked out all over the tray :? i presume its just distilled water in there not acid or anything!!, anyway it did work coz it started strait away!, (then it died when the battary cracked) maby its just a case of new battary? bit concernd about battary, wouldnt stop leaking, probably filled the engine compartment by now, has any one got a battary for sale in the manchester area?[/img]
