if i was doin a straight pipe i wouldnt bother with a peco big bore exhaust, id stick a rage or a remus box on the end, for full effect!

well the result.....lol.... There Is A Cat And A Silencer on my exhaust my dad said and we had the silencer cut out and a straight bit of pipe welded in its place, its made the exhaust fairly louder but all you can really here is the k+n still,, my dad thinks the peco exaust might be shit because we revved the car up without the backbox on and it roared, much more than it would with a silencer on, but as soon as we put the back box on it silenced it big time, im thinkin of a new backbox but i aint sure which 1?! The work itself cost nothing, as i already have a nova for spares, got 2 peco bb2s (one in use) and the man over the road from me, cut and welded the small bit of pipe in place, and my dad done the swap over in bout an hour...it has made the exhaust more beefier but not as loud as i thought it would be,,,,,sorry to babble on!!!
go for something like a rage or savage exhaust, they should be loud

Ok mate cheers...
yer i remember when i started mine up without my back box on and it was so f**king loud and was thinking of leaving it off and just putting some sort of pipe there with a tailpipe on. (i think epo's old SRi was like this)
but if i did this would it work alright, like not lose any power or anything?? :?

You need a back box, so that the gasses escape properly, otherwise your gonna have to much back preasure and your car will run like a sack of shit! Try straight through with an ashley!

ah nice one mate. :D
yer iv got a ashley system on an ashley manifold, but i might change to a straight through system, get it louder.
cheers

i always though removing the silencers reduces back pressure...
and i don't think it will run like a sack of shit, epo had no silencers on his sri, and i would of thought if it ran like shit, he would of put a sliencer on or something
Ste - I meant that if you didnt have a backbox at all then it would prob run like crap. Someone mentioned removing the backbox completly and then sticking a tailpipe trim on the end of it... which i reackon would make the car run shit.
SRlew - Got an ashley myself, was loud as fuck when i fitted it now i want it louder, and some popping when backing off would be nice to, so off comes the middle silencer i think ;-)

hmm, i still hav the cat on mine, just got the silencer out, its made it fairly louder, but i just think it depends on what backbox you get... any one got a bb2 on theres thats loud lol???

Was that an XE tho???
THat could explain it.
well it was louder when i put the xe in but still with the 1400 it was loud an got me in trouble with teh police a few times.
the mid silencer does hardly anything, take one apart and you'l see why, on the stndard exhaust it's mostly the baffle in the backbox that does anything.
If your after a really loud system, take the middle out and buy a decent backbox.

3silencers and still loud
was it a standard 1400??
Nick-I think the mid silencer does do something, about the same silencing as the backbox on some cars, well on mk3 astras anyway, removing the centre box, doubled the sound.
Maybe different box on novas tho.
Although, on my mk3 it isn't even loud without a backbox on, i drove up and down my drive without a backbox, and me dad didn't even know i had no backbox on. But i spose thats the fault of the CAT and middle box.

if u want it loud then swap the centre box with a cherry bomb replacement (i know cherry bomb cans arent every1s cup of tea) but they are loud and u wont see it. my mate had 1 on his escort which made it nearly twice as loud, then use a rebel, savage, rage, or remus back box.
dont bother with mongoose, scorpion, peco boxes cos the cans mentioned above just have a tube inside with loads of holes in rather than that wadding (which makes it quiet)

mine didnt
mine was a magnex system with the front silencer removed and the back box + andother pipe added at the tother side and it was spot on imo

just dont get a peco :!: they sound ok, but not worth having if you want loud and beefy.
I had a peco bb2 (taken from a 1.3SR) on an otherwise standard 1.2 exhaust. Wasn't stupidly loud (give it some pedal and it was tho lol) but sounded really nice and deep, didn't rasp like a lot of them do.
Prefer my cars to make a sound rather than a noise though.
