Most likely yes... you'd be better off with 45s

Was going to go with 45s but 50s are alot cheaper. so they would definatly fit -60mm??

50's are a lot cheaper because they're often found as a standard size tyre on a range of cars, where as 45's tend to be more of an "upgrade".

There's about 1cm difference between the sidewall height, with the 50's obviously being taller. They'll physically fit on your car alright (as long as your wheels' offset isn't too far off et49) but expect a bit of rubbing when you hit the rough stuff.

Some people also say handling isn't quite so good on the 50's; however you might find ride comfort is a little better - with more sidewall the tyre absorbs more of the bumps from the road.

I had 45's on my mk2 hatch, lowered 60mm front and 50mm rear and probably wouldn't have gotten away with 50's on front or back, as I only had about 1cm gap on the front and level with the arches on the back. But my wheels were et38, so pushed out closer to the arch anyway.

how much more expensive are the 45's?

well for a start, id go out on a limb and say the A539 is a FAR better tyre than the S306, that sounds like a serious budget tyre at 25quid a pop. remeber that your tyres are the only thing keeping your car on the road, dont be cheap, and get some quality rubber.
the A539 is a very very good dry preformance tyre, its not as hot in the wet, some say its shocking. but thats personal preference, if your wanting a good all round tyre i suggest Uniroyal Rainsport1's amazing grip in the wet, and very good in the dry. and they are a tad cheaper than the yoko's.

^ yep

tyres are IMO one of the biggest factors in keeping your car on the tarmac, so its worth spending the extra.

I use 195/50/15. According to my calculations they are closer to the original diameter of the 175/65/14 tyres that came on GTE/GSi cars from new. I use early vectra alloys, and the only scrubbing I have had is on the rear inner arch when I had 3 people in the back lol. It's only lowered about 35-40mm though.

As for a recommendation on tyre choice, for a road car I use Pirelli P5000 DRAGO ( I think that's the full name ). Far better in the wet that the yokos and toyos, and pretty good in the dry.

Try http://www.mytyres.co.uk/

They send the tryes direct and postage is included in the price, you just have to get them fitted (?20)

This is a very good tyre:
