View Full Version : ?4 6x9's in the rear shelf?
Ive a pair of JBL GTO 6x9's in the rear shelf and i also have a pair of Sony Xplod 6x9's not fitted, ?anyone has 2 pairs of 6x9's in the rear shelf? ?sounds good (I haven't amps)? ?good bass? ?Does the sound comes from the back of the car (ive a pair of 6'5" separated ways components in the doors and dashboard and a pair of tweeters in the quarter shelfs)??DIY shelf or the original one? Thanks
my mate had two sets of 6x9;s in his rear shelf. it did sound loud. I dont think its a good idea though to wire two speakers of one channel as it will make your stereo work harder (equals more heat & possible damage). Get an amp for the ones you have got now and their will be a big increase in noise. I am not impressed with the JBL GTO speakers either, my mate had a set and they distorted really easy when used with an amp. the kenwood 7x10's we tried didnt distort one bit, even on max gain (250watt(max)) both speakers where rated at 240watt m. try using just your sonys and see what they sound like. even though every1 slates sony brand I think they are quiet good for the money you pay.

if you put speakers in the back the sound will come from the front obviously.

i agree it will be loud, however it will also sound pritty shit, suppose if you are not bothered about SQ then go for it
DIy shelf is easy to make. 15mm MDF is best for it.
bin the JBL's are they are pants. use the sonys
Im a Corporate tart :D
Thanks for the amswers, not a good idea :( I don't like sonys much, i have them in a box with no use and i thought that, they give prettier bass than jbl's i think, but they're pure paper, mines don't distort (perhaps cos i have no amp). One thing, I'm not english and.. ?whats SQ? ?Sound Quality?
Mate, mate, mate....
The sound should come from the front as that's the way you're looking. SQ does mean sound quality. your 6x9s are for filling out the sound and nothing more. Set the fade so you can just ( and I do mean JUST :) ) hear your rears and the balance so it feels as though the music ( I use that word advisidly) is coming from the windscreen. The image should let you know where they were standing whilst recording, this is what stereo is all about. Do this with your eyes closed.
1, Deaden the body panels
2, don't point tweeters at the window as it acts like a mirror and sounds crap.
3, try to keep tweeters within 6" of their components for the best sound staging.
4, 1 sub will sound better than 2 if you size it correctly, the size of the box is critical but not it's shape.

well said novax ;) the only other thing i would say is bin the rear fill altogether it will fook up your soundstaging
instead of putting the other two 6x9 's in the rear shelve, put them in the side panels in the rear. i remade mine out of plywood covered them in blue bass box material and they look top. i have 8" woofers in though instead of 6x9's.
