Does anyone know the following (or have a haynes manual handy):

If I remove the steering barrel thing (where the key goes into) will this take the steering lock with it?
(I already know how to remove the barrel with the key and a paper clip)

The scenario:
Car stolen, steering lock snapped - need to ensure it will not come back on when recovering car...

Yea thats my thoughts but I'm being told "it'll be fine" by some un-named individuals lol

I would rather remove it than chance driving as is...

Just drive in straight lines ffs.
When you have to turn, just get out and pick it up!

Sorted!

The locking mechanism is located at the bottom of the barrel (where the key goes in) just remember to check the down pipe that its not too badly buckled cos most criminal prats dont care what damage they do or risk they cause wacking screw drivers down barrels or ramming steering whees apart till the lock goes POP!!!
