bought the car about 6mths ago.. idle was fine..

now it over revs when warm.. with it being summer* its getting abit embarrassing.. its had a complete service.. oem airfilter (from a pipercross), plugs, leads, dizzy, fuel and oil filter... cambelt and alternator belt waiting to be fittied.. anyway, this made the car idle better, and drive smooth.

But its still idle @2,500 when warm..

if i rev it @2,500rpm the car sounds a beast..
when it self idles @2,500rpm it sounds weak and lame..

when we started the cambelt we noticed it was nearly a inch out..
it started raining..

also losing about half a tank of water every 2mths.. no signs of head gasket failure....

i can stop the idle sometimes with a slight rev, when braking, i will need to keep it in gear until near stall..

could be the carb sticking (assuming it is a carb car) as this happens on mine but it calms down when the engine warms up

turn the idle speed down then

screw on the top of the throttle body

As aragorn says adjust the idle screw. Take a note of the possition of it before you adjust it.

Unscrew to get higher idle
Screw in to get lower idle.

But does the car idle ok when its cold??

the idle is fine when cold.. when its warm it just starts reving to 2,500rpm on its own..

playing with my idle speed won't work.. because it idles fine half the time..

i can be sitting there with the engine idling @900rpm.. after 5mins it just rises on its own to 2,500rpm..
if i rev it when the revs are rising it stops..
if i rev it when its stuck @2,500 it idles even higher @3,000rpm..

Didn't think the actual idle speed was adjustable on these.

yup theres a bleed screw on the throttle body to adjust it

sounds like either too much ignition advance or a vacuum leak somewhere

perhaps the secondary air valve is sticking shut?

or the CAV on the end of the plenum is burst

maybe the aforementioned idel valve is a different badger to the ISCV
