Had this problem with my 1300 too, but never got it on the rolling road to try and cure.

Basically if i drive it pretty sharp up through the gears, up to about 7k in 3rd, then change to 4th, it dies. It feels like theres no fuel going to the carbs, and the more i push the throttle the quicker it slows down. Push it hard and it jumps down 10mph in a few seconds. BUT, give it third and it fly's again, back up to 7k! Give it 4th, same happens again.

If i drive easy up to 4th, then 5th, theres no problem. This spare engine has been jetted and setup, so i dont think there should be a problem there. I've been thinking it might be my fuel pump, but cant figure out why it would die in 4th but then go like a rocket in 3th.

Any ideas?

*edit, i'm running a facet silvertop pump, but have it in the enginebay, every so often it just randomly starts tapping the same as if its not getting fuel into it, but gos quiet again after a few seconds, i think a move down to the tank is in order, BUT i cant see this causing my problem?

too big an accelerator pump jet maybe? or too lean?
When your in 3rd gear at 3000rpm, does it do the same thing when you suddenly plant your foot on the floor? or does it go ok?

I think the odd time it would chugg when i plant it harshly. But generally it loves 3rd gear. Maybe its overfueling at 7k in 3rd, and flooding when i give it 4th?

If you are allready getting nasty noises from the pump I'd get it moved down near the tank sharpish, when its sucking air not fuel it'll start to die.
Not something you want to happen halfway round the 'ring, or even worse on the way there.

Ive never had that problem at all mate. I think its best to get it setup on the rollers to make sure the jets are ok, & also they can advise you about your fuel pump, Altho Id move it near the tank. You dont want any more bad luck. :?

dropping fuel pressure due to pump location.
