:o mint

have u painted those bumpers or r they new?

and it needs a lowwer kit but im sure you on that one

id like it lower but it rubs now as it is! If i lower it at all its not going to move anywhere, so I dont see how people can lower their novas so much as there is so little room under the arches :(

Bumpers have been treated with Auto Glym Bumper Care.

You havent used spacers on the wheels have you? Take the car to a bodyshop and get them to slightly trim your arches. Mine are done and its this low:

Others havent touched there arches and can go this low, but my rear discs pushed the wheels out a few MM.

That is one fookin MINT nova mate, so original, hope you keep it mint and between the hedges. Whats your future plans?

Well have you had the lip on ur arches rolled? If u havent get it done and you can drop it 60mm easily.

theres no way im gettin that lip cut, i dont want to expose it to rust, i dont trust the bodyshop, I h8 going there. Thing is the wheels are no where near the lip at the moment, they miss it loads. Its when I go over a major pot hole the the wheels will rub on the inner arch. :(

krobinson: how can u drive your car without those rear wheels hitting the top of the arch over bumps?? This is the part of Nova mods I just dont understand - like I say my nova sits this high now and it hits the top of the arch every now and then :?

Because your suspension is shit. If you buy some good -60mm shocks and springs it will be fine. Your 13-15 year old suspension gives it too much give, and probably feels like a boat to drive.

Mines down 80-100mm at the rear and is fine. It rubs a little on the passanger side inner arch, but i dont care.

As keith said, with decent suspension the shocks don't compress as much, so it prevents the car bouncing up and down, and the wheel from hitting the arch.

Nova looks mint by the way.
Think colour coded mirrors would look cool :)

ah right, well do you think 40mm would be enough?

had the car just over a year now. Plans for this year are to colour code mirrors in the summer when the weather is warm enough for spraying - lower it (if i get the guts to, as im a wimp) - get central locking fitted - fit GSI interior.

Sounds like a plan mate, Nice car! You will be fine with different suspension- Youll have better, stiffer handling & your arches shouldnt hit, Unless you drive straight over speed bumps like they aint there! :o Coz then you'll take off nevermind rub the arches! Lol

lower it 60 mate. you will be dissapointed if you only go 40.

and as said it will probably rub less with good suspension than it does now.

NickWalliams

You can drop it 60mm with speedlines and it wont rub!

No need to touch your arches either.

theres a slight "bulge" on the inner arch about half way up and thats what the wheels will be catching on as u've prolly got tires with a very round sidewall profile

take wheels off and find scuff marks on the underseal

take large hammer and fettle bulge inwards slightly, refit wheels and drive over some hills to see if youve fixed it, if not repeat untill u have

as u said you'll be nowhere near the outer arch my bros et49 vauxhall alloys arent so those speedlines shouldnt be

thanks for all your comments guys, yes i want a 2.0 in there in the future - I dont think I will be able to make the PV show as I will be working, but If I can try and arrange a meet with some of you guys that have done conversions then that would be great as I can ask you some questions :D

Im gonna start shopping round for a lowing kit now, any good pointers would be great :)

Thanks again.

thanks for that Jules, I agree it looks so much better. I will sort that out as soon as I can, not taking any shortcuts though, will invest in some coilovers I think.

SRimon

Coilovers are the way to go...

For reference, this is mine lowered 40mm on speedlines, rolled and flared arches tho

SRimon: is it possible for me to get mine that low without rolling the lip etc? As i said before there looks like theres plenty of room from the tyre to the lip atm as I have speedlines on.
