your welcome
No you don't have to laquer them.
Did you use a plastic primer?
On my bumpers i just did a couple of sprays, just got a nice coverage, and they have been fine, apart from where i have dropped hammers etc onto them and small bits of paint chipped away.
But what do i expect for ?2.50 spray can :?
I could of gone crazy and sprayed loads of coats, so it wouldn't chip off as much, but i didn't
yer i was going to spray mine matt black but i was woried about it chipping aswell. but i know someone who found some matt finish laquer, might try and find it.

I was about to say its out there lol. I used to use matt and satin laquers on model kits so I would assume you could use a similar (or car equivlant) product on your bumpers.

Could the laquer not be given a once over with extremley fine wet n dry once it's dried?
I assume this would remove the shine, don't quote me on it though.
matt black WILL chip - any paint will chip if not lacquered. Lacquer builds up a protective invisible covering - but it does make the item lacquered glassy.
you could usewet n dry to dull it but it'll look naff because you wont get an exact same level of pressure all over.
You could use more layers of paint but all that will do is make the front of the car pitted after a while.
Might be worth seeeing if you can get a satin 2 pak paint...
Dunno if you can...
You might have been better buying a plastic dye rather than spraying them. That way the bumper wont chip, the dye will be uniform (if applied properly) and it'll save you lots of hastle...
Hindsights a great thing though

Ok thanks guys , hhhmmm yeah hindsight is a mother f***er
well, what about this matt finish laquer?? does it excist, whats the opinion on this???? :o
i thaught if i gave the bumpers quite a few coats it will protect it more... :o
well i try and find out where my mate got his from and also i'll ask my old man if he knows if you can get matt effect laquer, as he owns his own bodyshop.
also i'll ask him if you can get matt/satin 2 pack as he uses that.
ade whats this plastic dye? where do you get hold of that stuff then?
tbh not too sure but you can get it.
Some plastics (like acrylic) are mnoisture absorbant - so if you take a block of acrylic and place it in boiling water that has a coloured dye in it (like red ink for example) the heat will expand the acyrlic and absorb the colour. With a clear piece of acrylic, what you get is a clear piece with the colour running through it - its very impressive...
Most dyes will stain most plastics - abs should be absorbant to a degree(what platics bumpers are made of) - try sanding apatch of your bumper, then rubbing eater on it - it vanishes pretty quickly.
Id start in places like halfords...
