Hello this is my first post
I have just fitted a 2.0 XE into my Nova. I got it running last night, but it sounded like it was only running on three. I switched the engine off to check all the earths etc, but did not disconnect anything. When I tried the engine again it splutter a few times, then it would not fire up. I tried it again after 1/2 hour and it started but died after 30 seconds or so. I tried disconnecting the fuel pump electric, turned the engine over and after a few turns it started and it run for 3 or 4 seconds. When I connected the electric to the fuel pump again it seemed to flood again. Anyone got any ideas what might be wrong with it, I only want to get it running enough to get it to a rolling road place.
Cheers

What nova is it? Are you running a 3bar fuel system?

It is a Nova GSI, the later type with distributor less ignition. The engine was straight out of a 1988 Astra GTE. The fueling is standard

did you do the wiring?

a few possibilities
1. youve used the "ignition live" at the coil to power the ECU (this wire has a resistor inline on carb models so the voltage will drop down very low once its loaded up)
2. you dont have the correct fuel pump (ie your trying to use a 1.2i pump although ive heard the 1.2i pump does work)
3. Dodgy Fuel pump relay (this also powers the ecu itself so if its half dead it could cause problems)

Yeah.
I ended up using a Cavalier GSI wiring loom and ecu, as the astra ecu was u/s.

I am using the switch live from the coil pack. But it does show 12V's when cranking

was it a carb shell?
i'd seriously advise against using a feed from the old coil
use a feed direcly from the ignition barrel (and make sure u tap the feed that stays live when cranking ;) )

Black wire above gearbox goes to black wire in old gsi loom on bulkhead
Ing live
Red to battary live for ecu
Red/blue near ecu black plug fuel pump out put to red/blue to fuse No1 nova fuse box.
If wiring ok check feed at fuel pump.
Still could be lots of thinks.........

Yeah thats hows it wired. The fuel pump is running when cranked. I have a spark at all 4 plugs, and it seems to be turning over at the right speed

are your injection plugs on the right way round?
is it logging any fault codes?

After wiring is ok. you have a spark at all 4 plugs, And fuel you need to look at timing, or compreson
Are the plugs wet??

Sorted it. I found a broken wire in the loom from the coolant temp sensor. Runs great now.
I have another question
On the Cavalier loom what is the single plug down by the coil for? It has a single 0.5ish green wire. The plug has a red seal on it.
Cheers
