View Full Version : Is it worth it?????????

My 1.2i is starting to become more trouble than its worth. I have been patient and tolerant but am now starting to get to my wits end. I bought it back in December with a view of working on it during the last 6 months of my ban, knowing that it had its problems. Now, with the end in site, the problems are getting expensive with a complete engine rebuild looming (bottom end getting noisy, valve seals shot etc etc).
Ordinarilly I would just throw caution to the wind and just either scrap the car and transfer everything over to a less "troublesome" motor or just get a better lump to put in it (18 months ahead of schecule). But being on long term sickness, and therefore money being tight, and a drink drive conviction to consider I have to ask myself "Is it worth it?"
I have sunk every spare penny into this car and would hate to see it go.

bin the engine an get another 1.2/sr engine, you can pick them up for about 30 now. Dont rebuild the old one as it really will start to get expensive.
My car hs fucked up for the 3 years ive had it but i still keep it has i have moments when it puts the bigegst smile on my face, all worth it

u will find the 1.2i block is the same as a 1400sr block with the exception of the bore

crank rods etc are all the same

1600 pistons) bore it out to 77.6mm and fit some standard SR pistons (or 79mm and use

use a 1200 carb head and fit a 32/34 on it with a 1300sr manifold

looks like a 1200, says its a 1200 goes like a 1400 ;)

all u'd have to do is declare the carb

or failing that keep the standard 1200i head for now and keep the SPi until u can afford to shove some twincarbs or whatever onto it and it will look like a totally standard 1.2i but will be producing around 70bhp

plus u know its freshly rebuilt :)

the other way to do it would be to buy a 1200 carb block and fit your 1200i crank and rods to it

that way uve got the same stroke as the 1300 and 1400 and the carb 1.2 has big bore anyway (77.8mm) giving just over 1400cc

plus they are all 1200 parts :p

and if everything in the engine is from a 1200, well its a 1200 isnt it ;)
