View Full Version : clutch size verification
right the haynes book of lies says there are 2 clutches a 190mm and a 200mm one
now its my understandings that the 200mm one will only fit under an F13 or above bell housing and the 190mm one will fit under then all
am i right so far?
a 1.2 is speced to have a 190mm clutch, but will a 200mm clutch fit on the flywheel? (yes the engine will have a F13 bolted to it)
no guesses kids, i want proper answers lol

yes... but you can also use the 200mm plate with the smaller setup.... and vice vesa
i think it's just the flywheel that needs to clear the box
what you gonna be using stu? standard 1600 clutch, or a uprated one

if u use the larger 1600 flywheel to take the 200mm clutch then u will have problems lining up the starter motor
u may be able to use a 200mm friction plate with the standard 1200 pressure plate and flywheel but i doubt it would fit
there is enough space on the smaller flywheel to take the 200mm clutch so all u'd have to do is drill and tap the mounting points for the new pressure plate and it should all work

the 1.6 has a pot type flywheel whereas the F10-equipped engines have Flat type.
Thats why you can't change the clutch through the inspection cover like on the F10's.
Not sure wether the clutch is different for the 2 types of fly.
well most places seem to only sell the 200mm VX variant and the 190 is left in the dark lol
hmm ill see what we have up at the farm to rough align it all, i dont fany drilling the flywheel as that could cause unbalance, which at 8K will kill the engine bigtime

the clutch aligning tool i'v got is to big to fit through the driven plate, so i'm gonna line it up as best i can by eye, maybe try find something just small enough to fit through.

When my paddle clutch was fitted to mine we did it the normal way so the 1.6 is no different

only the 16vs that have pot flywheels?
the F15 has no access cover but im certain the F13 does?

^^ sounds right, the nova 1.6 who can change with box on, only 1.6's with the pot type flywheel are the 16v's

ah right, thats good then.
I was wondering why haynes said that it was impossible to change the clutch without taking the transmission off on the C16SE.
They say its cause of 'The modified Flywheel', which i assumed it meant a Pot type one.

mounting points are the same
200mm clutch it is then! :)
so to clear that up...
the 200mm clutch will fit any of the nova flywheels, but will not fit under a f10 bell housing. so a f13(or f15 will be required)
is that right??

after my ousting of engine work today all i can see visibly that is different is that the starter motor mountings are moved to one side a little on the 1.6 to acommidate for the 10mm bigger flywheel.
200mm clutch and fly will fit under the F10 bell housing. The housing is exactly the same as the F13 as far as i can tell.

so its simply the larger flywheel that wont fit under an F10 then...
