After fitting the K&N we noticed a good improvement in acceleration and pulling power, in fact a good all-round improvement was noticed as the engine felt more torquier (spelling?).
Another good point noticed was the induction roar produced without the old hefty airbox!

I just read that on this site.

None. If you're lucky. You'll probably lose power. The "feel" of better performance is usually psychological, not to mention the crap starting in cold weather and increased chance of carb icing.

However, you do get the "nicer" sound. My mate with the GTi-6 put a K&N on his purely for the noise, even though a RamAir filter would have gained him more horses.

I remember there was an article in TV a while back where they put different filters to the test, and the K&N came out very poor.

every example i've seen of them don't work...

A friend of mine owns a nissan Skyline R400 thingy, it's got a silly engine in it and his is the only car i know that benefits from a Free-flow filter !

tbh for a 1.2i and 1.2 if youre not going to change anbything else on the car (like exhaust etc) the filter will prob give you 1-3bhp more - and you wont notice it.

the induction noise is good though.

I fitted a K&N to my nova when it had a 1.2 and it was a great noise - but to be honest youd get the same effect drilling holes on the underside of the standard bin lid filter box (drill on the outside of the filter not the inside to stop dirt being sucked into engine).

Insurance wise - its a mod - a small one but a mod all the same and will increase premium - depends on age though as to how much.

Have to say though for the money - its not worth it. Second hand decent one for the 1.2i (make sure you get riht one coz the base plates differ) will cost you anythig from ?20 to ?50 inc delivery - you still have to buy the filter cleaner (?15 from halfords) and you'll need the engine adjusted to compensate for the increased air intake to get maximum benefit.

In the winter its a total bitch too because by removing trhe bin lid you remove the warm air feed from the manifold to the inlet - this stops the jets icing over causing the car to stall. With the top of the K&N being metal cold air condenses on it (apparantly) causing ice particles to form.

When I got me 1.4 with weber carbs I went for a ramair filter - this is 90% sponge filter and has no metal top plate at all.

Spend the dosh on summut else mate - spoiler, getting arches sorted etc.

Save the engine mods for when you can afford to get a bigger engine (1.4/1.6 etc)

A standard K&N filter wont fit a 1.2i!

If you're looking for a kit then green do one for stupid money or you could make your own, the Aragorn way
You will need a corsa top box to sit on the spi throttle body, some 68mm rain down pipe, a short piece of rubber hose approx 68mm, a 68mm 45degree bend and a universal filter.
The guide on how to put it all together is here....http://www.novaload.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=90933

There is also a guide on other mods to try and squeeze as much as you can outta 1.2i......... http://www.novaload.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=107319

Have fun
