when is it best to change gear? when there is maximum torque??

haynes manual says for a 1.4 sr

53kw (72bhp) at 5600 rpm

so is the highest torque and is this when to change gear??

thanks
mike

its all about personal preferecne and alot of experimenting. u could chage at that point yes, but then it would take longer for the revs to get to the power curse point in the next gear, i find changing at around 6400 in mine is best, which puts me at around 4k rpm in the next gear (from 1st-2nd, then 2nd - 3rd)

depends sometimes i found instead of crossing the line in 3rd it was a quicker time changing to 4th.
it would cross the line in 3rd without hitting limiter but putting in 4th got better times.

yep as Ian said.. crossing the line redlining in 3rd is slower than changing to 4th (but that was with my old 1.4, dunno now)

Mike,
Just get out there and give it some abuse, it's the best way to learn :D
