No, you can't use same manifold. 45's would be better for a 2.0.

Yes and nope. The 40's will work but not right, they arent big enough and the manifold wont fit

there is a point atwhich the air flow through a webber changes EG running a T40 with 35mm chokes probably wont flow aswell as a T45 on 32 mm chokes (thats an example and not real data as they might be different points)

i mean there is a chap on here running 45's on his 1.4 16v lol ;) and its rather goodl,

like whats already been said 40s will be too small, i have 45s on my 2lt 16v an the guy at the rolling road actually said i could do with a set of 48s to get the best out of the engine.

what size chokes do you run Phil? I'm on 38mm ones i think..

I ran 40's on my XE for a short while. They gave bags or low rev torque, which ment that 2nd gear starts were the norm. Peak power was pants though, as they couldn't get enough air in.

im not sure on the chokes to be honest, i have a feel when i brought them they had 36mm - 38mm in them.

T40's are at their limit at around 1800cc on a standardish engine.

a well modded 1.6 would be better on 45's. but 40's run very happily also.
