Hi I got a 2l 8v nova and it doesn't seem to run correctly. It won't go to the correct speeds in each gear ie only 40 in second and 90 in 5th. when it gets to about 4500 (so what it says on the tachometer although I think its real revs are lower) it cuts back violently.

It sort of bounces about till you back off. Some thing is really wrong.

If you do it too many times then the car just won't accelerate and dies till you restart it??

Please help :(

that means its running in limp mode and the engine management light will be on

if u have no engine management light i suggest u get one wired in (why people leave this out is really beyond me) and then use the paperclip over diagnostic plug pins a and b trick to read the fault codes out on the management light

Where can I get one of these engine management lights?? Also where does it plug into?? Is there a socket for it on the ecu?

I totaly new to cavs and novas cause I have always had fords, in my Erst you didn't have to worry bout things like this cause it was either a dodgey sensor or you swap ecu :?

Cheers for help its really been bugging me

its a light that should be on your dashboard that tells u when there is a problem with the ECU

using a paperclip u can get the ECU to tell u whats wrong with it by it flashing codes out the light bulb

u then swap the sensor thats broken just like you would have done on your escort?

whoever has fitted the engine has probably not bothered their arse wiring it up - i see this alot and it REALLY pisses me off as its not exactly hard to do

in the ECU loom there should be a brown/blue wire, this should be connected to the brown/yellow behind your dash(clocks), that will make either the ecu light or the choke light illuminate (depending on what kinda car the original shell was)

once uve got that u can read the fault codes
