Its nice to see that there are some committed Novaloaders out there and in many ways we have been/are a club. There are a fair few who have met up and established fairly long term contacts thru here.
BUT and its a big but there are several points to be made:
1. Kev has found to his cost that the site has grown from something that was a hobby designed to test out stuff to something of a 2 headed beast with a mind of its own consuming loads of time and quite a lot of money. Its not kids stuff and running a club with finances is not an undertaking that can be taken lightly. There are quite a lot of onerous responsibilities not to mention a lot of time and effort for someone. I know cos I've done it and being rather over the hill age wise *ahem* I do know what I'm on about.
2. I have noticed that the site experiences a large and continual churn rate. It seems clear that many come on, get keen for a few months and then drift away as they change cars or lose interest or wotever. Maybe paying to be in a club would hold their interest longer or maybe not - its an uncertainty that hampers planning.
3. Novas are basically entry level motors which means that the member base would be very young most of whom are:a. skint and b: not the most reliable and consistent of peeps. I just don't see many being long term committed members.
4. When events have been organised before and lots of interest has been voiced with seemingly loads wanting to go, only a fraction actually can be arsed to turn up.

Unfortunately I personally don't think it would work all that well and somebody would be well and truly lumbered with a thankless task chasing peeps about for money etc.
Sorry but thats the truth :(

the sad truth... in a way Novaload is a car club anyway.. mention it to most nova owners and they will have either posted/do post on here or will have at least heard of the site. In my experience anyway.. Novaload will always come before PNG (cos there usless) and any of the other sites.

:) Keep on novaloading (how cheeesy!)

Novaload is a club, and it is the best one of all. It's free, and you can still chat to other members, get advice, sell parts and buy parts too. Also get advice on how to mod and help when it all goes horribly wrong.
I say keep the effort going into what already has to be the best site for Maxed car owners anywhere, not just novas.

If any of the chiefs read this, i will be happy to help out in what ever way i can, i know it must take up a lot of your time and i would be glad to muck in if it meant that even more people could benefit!

Keep it up, Neil

Its fine- only things that would make it better would be like stands at VBOA (coz im not joining MIG just to go to billing) trax etc.
I know that for VBOA it has to be a 'proper' club tho... :(
Mybe some sort of membership cards :) Cheesy? ;) But kinda kool

lol :p! "membership" cards wouldnt be a bad idea - any community like this is classed as a club of sorts. Its been around for a while and as far as I know u dont have to register as a club or nething (?). Places like VBOA, trax etc will be in a better position to consider novaload in their venue once (and it already is) an established event participator. Amazing wot word of mouth can do...
If "members" with cards show up discounts could be negotiated for entry etc...thing is it still needs someone to organise but from wot I heard, Donny was v good.
keep the ball rolling...

After reading this lot I actually agree. I can imagine it takes up a lot of time to keep the site running. It obviously pays off though, coz the sites wicked.

Maybe somethin could be sorted out in the future.

Try and get more stands at shows though, its a great idea. The stand at donny was cool.

trying for trax stand, vboa is a no as u need to be part of vboa.

donny stand was bigger and better than png stand, png had 3 cars nowt special, nothing that hadnt been seen b4.

novaload had 5 cars. hopefully at trax we can get a much larger presence.

It's a shame really that people are commenting on other Nova/Vauxhall associations, saying how bad they were or not that impressive. Lets face it Nova's are 11 years old. I think Novaload and all the other sites/clubs have done well to keep this many enthusiasts commited for such a long period of time.

As CP said, Nova's are the entry level car for people to modify, I've seen a lot of people come onto this site with a Nova and then 6 months later leave after selling/crashing it to buy a non-vauxhall car. I agree with what CP said, I don't think a club would be very succesful. I try to organise a Nova meet every month in the Milton Keyenes/Bucks/Northants/Beds area. Every month I post a message on here and I know for a fact that theres at least a dozen people that come on this site that are in this area, I usually get about a dozen replys saying "yeah, I'll make the effort" and what happens, If I'm lucky 4 cars will turn up. This doesn't really do much to help out with the community spirt. Even if you're cars knackered (It can't be in a worse state than mine) It doesn't matter, making the effort and turning up to say hello will do. (For the record, there have been people that have travelled a lot further than expected to make the local monthly meet).

The reason the website has done so well (apart from the fact that it's easy to navigate, looks good and is full of usefull information) is that It's convienent for everyone to use. You don't have to leave your house to post a message, so no matter what the weathers like, Novaload will always be popular.

On a sad note I have noticed a change from Novaloaders recently. The site seems to go through patches where people can be really helpful one minute, and then at each others throats the next. Apart form slagging off other Nova/Vauxhall related websites, we also seem to be bickering with each other. Is this realy what we want?

There you go, Rant over, sorry to have voiced my opinion, but thats what it is. Novaload is the only Vauxhall website that I use, and I'm glad I came across it. I've met a lot of decent people from the site, shame that I've not met the majority of them in real life. If Novaload is to branch out in the real world, perhaps we should ask ourselves "do I really make the effort?". We all know about the Total Vauxhall meet at Santa Pod at the end of the month. If you're thinking about going why not make the effort? You never know, but if you decide not to make it, sods law will either get your car stolen or written off and that might mean the end of your commitment to Novaload :O I'll be going, but not up the strip (I await the comments from Ian :p). I'm sure if we put our heads together we can try and park up and make our own little Novaload area at Santa Pod?

Keep up the good work to all those involved with the running of the site.

Jim

P.S. Shall I get me coat? :p

I agree with SlimJim, all novaloader's that are attending santa pod should meet up! Ther are quite a few of us going to the pod so lets make an effort 2 meet up, and also at other shows where alot of novaloaders are going to attend, if ur gonna be at shows it doesnt take alot to meet up, but a bit more effort if ur not intending to go to shows! Its always nice to put a face to a name.......
Good work lads!

If it has tits or wheels it'l giv u probs!:)

as with the membership / club idea, i mite be completely wrong here, but dosent MIG have the same sort of thing e.g site, guides, forums, for sale etc and then in addition to this, a "Vauxhall car club" of which you subsribe to at cost?

surely something similar whereby people are encouraged because there will be discounts, regular club meets, convoys arranged for meets, rolling road days etc etc.

my dad is a membership secretary for a preserved railway in wales, and i would be happy to nick his equipment and do such a job, he has made a bespoke computer thing using excel to hold all the info and run reports etc, tis very good! and has a laminator and card printer machine to produce what appear like very professional cards.

if the powers that be were happy - y not have a membership secretary other than the people who run the site etc, and then if people want to increase there membership from standard website access (FREE) to the new idea, all they need do is fill in an extra form and be fully paid members like the scenario in mig??

maybe just a pipe dream but why not try it out just for a year? u never know, if this got just big enough for people to realise we were serious, we could pilpher members from other groups :P theres something about novaload that has such a community friendly feel - when people arent at each others throats ;)

food for thought

OK HERE GOES ! I AINT GONNA TYPE AS MUCH AS U PPS BUT JUST PUT SOMETHIN INTO IT :

I RUN A NOVA WEBSITE/CLUB WITH ABOUT 100TH AMOUNT OF MEMBERS ON THERE AS HERE....LOL (OK DONT TAKE THE PISS) LOL....
I PERSONNALY DONT THINK IT WOULD MAKE LOADS OF DIFFERENCE IF NOVALOAD BECAME A CLUB ANYWAYS AS ITS JUST LIKE A CLUB, I DO AGREE WITH WHAT MOST PPL ARE SAYIN IN THAT IT WOULD BE A WHOLE LOAD OF MORE WORK FOR THE ADMIN ONTOP OF WHAT THERE DOIN FOR THE NEW LOOK SITE AT THE MOMENT...
THATS ABOUT IT..LOL
