I took my car to the garage yesterday, He said the front n/s wheel bearings need replacing as the wheel is really wobbily, Is this hard to do?? He quoted me ?75 quid, this cheap or is it easy enough to do myself??

u need to remove the entire steering knuckle and have a machine shop press the new bearings in
the bearings are about ?15-20 each and machine shop will charge anything from ?10-40quid to press them in
if hes gonna do all that work for ?75 its not to bad really
however i'd make sure he does actually get them pressed in hydraulically rather than belting them with a hammer as this will fuck the bearings

both mine were *belted* in with a hammer and socket. Made sure that socket was just big enough so it fit over outer bearing casing.
No problems in the last 2-3k miles.

oryt mate ive just changed mine yesturday and wot a cow they were.
u need a 65mm socket and a mel hammer to nock the old 1 out i tapped the new ones in wiv a hammer but put a cloth over the top of the bearin and just tap round the outsides. The clips are pain unless u have serclip pliars and safety goggles coz if it springs u will no about it put 1 in then tap the bearin down to it then put the other clip in. i paid ?10 each for my bearings
dont be scared to hit the old bearing out "propper belt it"
put a bit grease on the outside of the new 1 and the inside of the stub axle.
WD40 or grease everything when puttin back on the car (every nut and bolt) makes it easyer

yer u can belt it but if your gonna pay for it i'd want them pressed in properly using a hydraulic press
