Speedo error

My speedo is out by about 20mph, i tried resetting the needle to 0 and it stays there but when im moving at 29mph the needle says 50 (tested it against a smiley face speed trap thingy) could it be because these clocks are fom a 5 speed car and mine only has 4 gears and the ratios are all out? if this is it, has anyone got a set of clocks from a mk2 1l?

no but it sounds like the clocks are simply fucked

removing the needles normally fucks the calibration

also need to know, will it be possible to fit a set of clocks from a mk1 or higher spec models like sr/gsi without having to change anything?

if its a mk1 the clocks i have wont fit as mine are mk2 clocks

any mk1 clocks will fit any mk1 physically but you'll need the wiring plug of the original car as the higher spec clocks have more pins on them

what does the speedo read at stand still
