I desperately need a new head unit for my truck, mp3 compatible is a must as then I can use the discs I've burned for the car> Would I be able to buy a normal 12v unit and have the power supply converted for 24v?

you would need a power converter. or some form of transformer (not like optimus prime) to change it to 12v. youll also need to reconvert it back to 24v for the earth, i believe. so could be more complicated than initially expected. sorry.

simple way is to buy a voltage dropper
can be picked up at any good truckstop/mail order cat.
then just plug and play!
this is what our trucks do so should have no probs

allready got a dropper, but have been told they're no good for continuous use. And the fact its only 6amp rated causes problems as most headunits draw up to 15amps nowadays.

well seeing as a HGV runs of 2x12v batts 95% i have worked one, just hard wire it to on of the batts. but i would run the earth and positive to the battery plugs,
