That sounds pretty bad mate, but if its just surface rust and can be ground&fillered, then sprayed, i would probably repair it..
my cars rusty on both doors one rear wheel arch, the slam panel front panel and a sill, but as i'm not driving it yet its my project so i'm repairing it

Its probably not economically sound but the thing is once you've done the welding you know its good quality and the cars rock solid. I feel more secure knowing the works been done properly cos theres so many bodged up, unsafe cars around.

i disagree, once you've done structural welding it's never as strong as a a1 condition nova.
once there is rot, it's very hard to get rid of it completly.
my advice is just buy another shell that's rott free, i had a pea size hole in the battery tray and my front panel is being replaced, that's about it tho

Rot is impossible to beat if you just bodge up little holes for every MOT. Replace larger areas and give the whole underside anti-rust and you'll be ok. My mate replaced the whole bottom 6 inches on his bug you this isnt a massive amount. I agree that a rust free unwelded shell would be better but i couldnt be assed to find one
good luck whatever you do

Things lik arches and doors are easily replaced its just things lik the battery tray and the underneath that can be a pain.

Looking at that i would say to get rid and get a better condition one mate. I am breaking my 5door and its got less visible rust than that :o

U need to think is it worth spending money getting it fixed or is it cheaper to buy a cleaner one.
mines a bit like that but its my project, plus i've got all the panels to put on it

You can virtually re-panel a whole nova for about 250 notes. cut out all the raer arch and buy a new rear quarter, new door and weld a plate over battery tray. waxoil EVERYTHING underneath and on inner wings, red oxide the welds then primer/spray them. take a while but if you have about ?300 its easily attcheivable......
Do you think the rest of the car is worth the work/money? engine condition?
Your choice mate.....
Personally I'd cut my loses and get rid of it, you'd be much better off spending what it would cost to repair that on a Nova in better condition, take what bits you want/need from your current one and look for another project - plenty of old people selling Nova's in reasonable/good condition if you look hard enough.
it depends, if you can weld keep it, if not dont as it will cost far to much to repair it

lol!!! meaning that secret rust is better??
And theres me thinkin my mk1 was bad PMSL...
If you have the time, money and patience it can be sorted no problems, just think how many Sports have been rebuilt from scratch But its often cheaper to buy a new shell which is in better condition.
Well it certainly seems that way.

Will you let me have it riggy the shell that is does it have much rust
All that rust is in easily repairable/replaceable places. Its all cosmetic.
I'd be more concerned about rust in structural locations, i.e. on the chassis near suspension components and in the engine bay etc.
