i know obviosly that this is a vauxhall site, but wot the problem ive got must be the same principals engine wise.

the car is a 1.4 carb ford escort,
the problem is that the engine is idling way too fast and ive noticed that the spring return on the throttle, on the carb isnt springing back its just flappin about.
is this gonna cause any problems? and what will need to be done to sort out the idling if the carb is the problem? balancing? or what?

any help aprreciated
cheers

On my weber 32/34 the throttle return spring would sometimes snap and i would find the car suddenly idleing at around 2000rpm. If yours is the same or similar then just secure it back to both the carb and throttle cable and that should cure your fast idle problem.
