ok we all have nova's with different states of modified engines but what fuels do you all run, unleaded, super, lrp, optimax, or maybe a few are diesel, at the moment i'm on unleaded but will be changing soon

unleaded (1.2) -trying super to see if it makes a difference - not much so far...(apart from the extra 10p a ltr!)

hi

LRP at teh moment but only cuz my timing is off and it pinks like hell on 95 octane..

Ade - btw have you adjusted the timing to suit the higher octane fuel? if not then you wouldnt notice much of a difference...

Plain unleaded. Period.

ade

not yet (may do if I use again) - dunno if I'm gonna bother using it though as it's expensive & with my engine size dont think I'd see much diff anyway. Was recommended by m8 to help to reduce pinking...:-/

Normally just unleaded - however the head is off at the mo, being ported and polished, and i've got a 4-branch to go on when its back and possibly a new cam, then i will be running it on Super :)

Stuart
18-05-02, 06:33 PM
4Star, Avgas, meths or anything else flamable i can find

or just asda/tesco premium UL

BEng (hons) just isnt enough, i need a Msc too!

I'm mixing super with unleaded every 3rd to 4th fill up. The car has been pinking since having a cam fitted, this has helped. Aparently I need new weights in the dizzy balanced to work with my cam as it can't be adjusted by timing anymore??

Stuart

get mappable ignition

BEng (hons) just isnt enough, i need a Msc too!

normal unleaded as engine is mapped to run on it.(although not mapped well at mo)

heard dodgy stuff about optimax.

Dannova12

i use optimax with redex

rob.slader
19-05-02, 11:25 AM
What's mappable ignition?

Stuart
19-05-02, 03:04 PM
it has an array of points for given RPM & Throttle positions so that it gives the optimum spark advance, it also takes info from NTC1 (and 2 if you have it) etc

BEng (hons) just isnt enough, i need a Msc too!

oh dear it seems billy has once again tried to enter into a basic social situation and made himself look like a penis

no surprises there.

i believe this is the same billy that replied to a post asking 'how fast are valvers' with 'well theyre not as fast as you expect'. This is a very strange comment seeing as the lad hasn't even experienced/owns one.

Oh hang on a minute! I take that back because although he doesnt actually have one, his GTE has the same power, in fact more, as a valver; here is the proof

http://www.knighta.f9.co.uk/gallery/billywestcott.htm

WOW!

a K&N, exhaust and chip (oh not forgetting the 'make you harder for longer HT leads') has endowed his car with a genuine 136bhp @ wheels i.e. over 150bhp @ fly, this makes billy a candidate for commenting on valvers.

I seem to remember you posting a pic of 'your' valver conversion which was in fact a scanned in pic of a 2.0 16v mk1 Astra from the readers seciton of Fast Car?

Ladies and gents, it's time to group billy in the Surbos of this world - Billy Bullshit

Vauxhall Nova 1600cc SOHC, 4 cyclinder, 8v injection engine.
K&N 57i induction kit.
Hotwires HT leads.
Bosch Spark plugs.
Pipercross oil filter.
Magnex 3" tailpipe.
Superchip fitted.
Performance, 136bhp@wheels, 0-60 in 7.129 secs, 0-100 in 12.929.

lol i quite like the 0-100 time, a whole 6 seocnds quicker than a 2.0 nova would do it in.

you are all a bunch of computer geeks, yes i have got a valver engine and no all that 0 - 100 timing is bullshit, my mate timed me and stopped the watch at 80ish not 100. But he put it on topbuzz anyway. O and fester... why are you on a mission at me? You cant have a bird, are you filling up your lonely hours on novaload all day? Sad. Im not dissin the site cos it is probly the best nova site on the net, and most helpful. Just a few jelous pricks on here with their sunstrips and neon washer jets! fast!

I think that if you diss a fair poll that everyone can answer not just the valver boys or turboboys, then the 'helpful' as you say gets taken out of the equation as the dissing is very unhelpful and puts peoples backs up. It was an easy question to answer and the answers were there to use, u just had to put what was your prefered fuel that u use. It wasnt jealousy or anything like that just some smart replies to a smartarse comment.

Rant over :)

Anyway, lets not get carried away here by bashing people over quoted figures. We can all have a good laugh to ourselves at this.
