What I want to know is how you think that this is such an achievement and you are happy about it. In todays economic and social situation there are far more important issue to worry about than a simple post count.

For starters, I bet you are under 20 and so therefore live at home with your parents. Now even if you go to university and manage to pay your way through and even if you get a job, how will you survive? Lets say you are lucky and come straight out of education into a reasonable starting wage job - ?25K per anumn.

Now unless you are a "Key worker" or a pikey you will not qualify for a council house, and as a result you will have to rent or buy a property. Now a lot of BTL (Buy to let) "investors" are currently under strain because the rents that they are charging, whilst being high, are not high enough to pay off the mortgages on the house. As a result they are forced to sell. However house prices are very high still and as am result you will not be able to afford to even buy one of these. A basic mortgage will get you 3.75 times your annual salary - which equates to ?93750. As you may be aware this will not even buy you a wheelie bin to live in.

Another issue which should be on your mind is the current climate. Due to the population growth and expansion atmospheric pollution is on the increase and is not looking to be slowing down. Even if it did suddenly stop now, humans have done irreversable damage to the planet. This can be seen in recent events such as the massive Tsunami and the hurricanes across the USA. Combine this with global warming and we are pretty much buggered because a lot of land will be underwater. Also remember that you will be on this plannet for another 50 or so years, you already can see some of these changes and they will only get worse.

Combine this with the rising troubles in the Middle East. Iran is refusing to stop their nuclear research (even though they claim it is not for weapons). China's economy is booming and as a result pollution is on the increase. North Korea is a total rogue state and is very secretive. What are their plans? We know they do not favour "the west". They already have nuclear weapons.

Natural resources are becoming more and more depleted. How much will petrol cost in 50 years? That is if we still have any oil reserves. What will happen after they run out?

The "war on terror" whether right or wrong has given "the west" many enemies. What will happen in the future? Is it just a matter of time before another twin towers/madrid bombing? Will it happen here?

What about your future? The government will be stopping state pension. What will you do then? You will need some financial security when you are old. Have you started a pension now? Also what will happen to your pension (if you start it) with todays economic climate where a small a fake news report about an event in the middle east can affect oil prices, which then in turn affect the stock markets and change exchange rates. This can only get worse. All pensions are depandant on these factors.

All of these things should now be on your mind about the future - will I still be living with your parents when you are 62? will you be blown up in a war? Will we run out of resources and become go into a downward spiral as a planet? Will there be financial security when you get old or will you die starving and alone? Will you be wiped out due to dramatic climate change?

Compare these thoughts to the mere fact that you have made 200 posts on a site dedicated to Vauxhall novas. Do you still think it is a real and worthwhile achievement? Shouldn't you be concentrating on the more important issues at hand?

ps. You may have 200 posts but still no-one know who the fuck you are

Philsutton
16-03-05, 02:36 PM
Global warming would happen whether humans are here or not. Its happened in the past an it'll happen again, all we are doing is speeding up the process nothing more. Really fucks me off all thes tree huggers that go on about oooh save the planet, shows they know fuck all and just use it as excuse to complain.

Alex
16-03-05, 02:40 PM
yes but if we keep going the way we are it will have a dramatic effect on the planet in my lifetime. I dont want that. Once I'm gone, i dont give a flying fcuk about it. In fact I hope something big happens just as I am breathing my last breath lol

hendrix
16-03-05, 02:44 PM
...humans have done irreversable damage to the planet. This can be seen in recent events such as the massive Tsunami...

That was due to a subduction zone and nothing to do with human activity. sorry mate

Alex
16-03-05, 02:55 PM
The actual Tsunami I agree had nothing to do with human activites, but the impact and massive loss of life was. Human activities, notably the building of coastal resorts and the destruction of natural protection contributed to the enormous loss of life. Mangroves which offered natural protection have been ripped down to create shrimp farms, coral reefs which also would slow it down have been destroyed, so have allowed the full force to hit the countries affected. Had this event happened 50 years ago I believe that the loss of life will have been vastly reduced.

ps I am not a hippy - far from it.

Philsutton
16-03-05, 02:55 PM
lol, just as your passing away a comet the size of the moon bumps in the planet. I couldnt give a fuck about the planet, its when people makea big deal about saving the little fury creatures. Does it really matter if the dazzling monkey bird of africa doesnt die off for another 100 years or what ever. Your just dragging out the inevitable ffs. Over the millions of years the planet has been around its changed many times very dramaticaly and animals have been wiped out, the human race has had a few near misses but was al this caused by pollution, was it fuck.

You'll find the sorts of people that get off on saving trees ect dont have jobs never heard of a shower, real losers

Alex
16-03-05, 02:59 PM
In fact I hope something big happens just as I am breathing my last breath lol
Such as hitting 10k posts?

maybe lol. On average I have posted 2.99 posts per day since joining.
I have posted a total of (including this post) 3623 posts. That leaves me with 6377 posts to go. If I keep going at the same rate it means that I will die in 5.8 years (when i hit 10K). It will also mean the world as you know it will end on that day lol.

Thank you for your worldly comments, but I was merely stating the fact in the form of a post that I had reached the 200 post mark. As far as 'other achieventments' are concerned Im on my way to a Degree in Chemical Analysis.

Firstly I didn't put you or your achivements down, I was merely stating that reaching 200 or 2 million posts on a nova site is not really an achivement as such. If everyone posted about similar post milestones, this forums would be filled with them. I didn't mention any other achivements of yours. I also didn't question your education - I just stated that you may go to uni. This has been confirmed.

And yes, it is verbal diahorea lol, but they are very real problems and whilst you can ignore some, you cannot escape from others.

I wrote that whilst at work, where I am ahead on my current project and waiting for a piece of code that I have written to finish running. There was nothing else I could have been doing apart from maybe rearange my desk/office until it had finished.

Andy"Racer" - Why am I sad thinking about the future? I would prefer not to, but these days you have to. There will be NO pension when we are of retirement age. The government wont help either.
Houses in my area are 130K minimum. This means that to get that much in a mortgage you have to be earning 35K which is not realistic for many young people these days.
Also I am not the one with the great English word "coz" in my signature.

Thinking about the future is a big problem these days.... a lot of people seem to have indifference towards everything with a live now pay later lifestyle. Not worrying about the future is one thing; not thinking about it, or not being concerned about it, is an entirely different kettle of proverbial fish.

....and what are those fish doing in the kettle anyway?
