Right, I'm a die hard Nova fan, and not much other Vaux's though, but has anyone seen the Cover on Performance Ford this Month?
Its got a 779bhp RWD Sierra Cossie on it. Now some might dissagree, but thats fxcking Mental hi!! 779bhp to the rear wheels? I've driven a 350bhp Saphire and it was a Handful, and this has more than twice the power!!
Not only that, but they've a 460bhp, FWD Fiesta as well. It does 179.8mph top end. Thats Porche and Ferrari Performance. Imagine, cruising at 150mph in your Ferarri and being over taken by a Ford Fiesta, and not getting to catch it...
I'm sorry folks, but those Ford owners are due all our respect.

Nick

Some Fords are quality.

The chap at the local garage is building a XE powered Mk2 Escort rally car, he's spent about 5k+ on building the engine, he's Rebuilt all the Suspension turrets and put a homemade wide arch kit on it.

I believe it shall be very rapid once done.

I do respect some fords its just the crappy chav style fiestas and escorts that i don't like. But i love cossie and rs turbos there really nice cars.

Ya, x touring car with an Ex F1 car Turbo on it. There's loads of Mk2 Escorts running XE's over here, i sold a MK3 Escort Shell to a local man here and he's made it into a G3 with an XE with Twin 48's and god only knows what else on it....... Thee XE'd MK2 Escorts go for upto ?30,000 Stg over here and thats no sh1t either.

most of them were crushed.

MK2's are the future. They'll never die. Seriously, 30yrs on the go and they're still competing and winning. Its a winnning combo. Buy a Mk2 Shell, a 2.0 Mondeo, an old 1800 Sierra G.Box, spend ?1000 on the Engine and you''re running 250-300bhp. The MK2's were made so that the best of the new Fords would bolt straight onto them. Seriously, there's nothing, even egenuine parts, that you cant get for the MK2, you can even get the Body Shells brand new now as well!!

the rs1700t's were rear wheel drive wern't they??

Dod
15-03-05, 09:10 PM
The RS1700t was to Replace the MK2 BDa powered car. It had a BDX, a turbo'd version of the MK2's engine. It was to replace the MK2 in a feat to take on the Audi Quatro's, Stratoes, VArious 400's from Vauxhall, but then everyone started building 4x4's so the RS1700 was deemed useless compaired to its rivels..... Roll on the RS200!!! Yippee!!

My favourate alltime ford still has to be the allmighty RS200.

ANDYRACER

yes it was to replace the mk2 rally... but

When Ford was bought by an american company , maybe it was GM ? not sure.. Basically the RS1700T was produced as a road car, with slightly les BHP, very very fast still. It was rivalling the Take-over companies own production cars so they scrapped it, and crushed all the Examples they could legitamitly crush.

So the only ones around are ones people bought, or the odd one or two they saved.

I don't know if it was RWD, i think it was, but it's a truely insane car.

Ooooh and the legendary quattro.. nothing could beat that so they banend it.

Nick
15-03-05, 10:11 PM
they were bought by someone, and they ceased the 1700T production, i will find the company now

Ford WRC operations were partially bought out by an american company, or funded something like that, it doesn't actually say whom. I don't know why i said GM lol...

Anyways, they forced them to scrap the project. As it would have rivalled their production cars

ANDYRACER
15-03-05, 10:12 PM
Nick wtf is that?

Nick
15-03-05, 10:17 PM
Nick wtf is that?

Boost could be as high as over 600bhp and Henri Toivenen lapped the portugese F1Gp track that year in a time quick enough to secure 6th on the Gp F1 grid!

That's the car that banned Group B rallying lol

Lancia then made a Delta Twinturbo that had something nearing 700bhp, for group S rallying, but then the S4 Got group B, and Prospective group S completly banned. so they had to scrap that idea lol

burgo
15-03-05, 10:45 PM
The RS1700T was a car born at the wrong moment. It was developed for two years by Ford Germany and Malcolm Wilson (My boss !) and was intended to be a replacement for the extremely successful Mk2 Escort. However, just as development was nearing completion and a few examples were in testing, Audi brought out the 4wd Quattro's and killed the project stone dead. It was sold to Ford South Africa and as the articles you have linked to state, most of the cars were crushed.

In fact, only 2 remain.

The first is a replica of the original RS1700T rally car and is now at Ford Europe HQ. The second is a standard road car in metallic blue and is in our museum at M-sport

nick im sorry but i hate you, you've made me love this car again. i will build a replica one day

Nick
15-03-05, 10:48 PM
ahh that's not the story i read about it...

Anyhow... it's a smashing little car lol...

but im not sure if 0-60 in under 4 is quick enough ?

burgo
15-03-05, 10:50 PM
why what story have you read

Nick
15-03-05, 10:59 PM
that some part of ford operations/project stuff was invested into or bought into by some american Car company, and they forced the Death of the RS1700T, convinently at the same time as a Group B Stopped.

Hence no use for the car except for production (was still fast), but it was too much of an awesome car so they crushed all the ones they could.

that came from a member of the RSTurbo OC

burgo
15-03-05, 11:02 PM
the story ive heard is they were in the testing stage of its development when audi brought out the quatro so ford ditched the rs1700t project as it was only rear wheel drive and built the rs200 instead. what is annoying is alot of people seem to think they ditched the rs1700t cos it was crap which isn't the case at all

Nick
15-03-05, 11:05 PM
ahh well, it was intended for Group B to beat the delta i think, so it can hardly have been crap, as the delta won 25 championships

but then the 205T16 and QS1 killed that idea, then the S4 spoiled the fun for everyone

You lot will like this one once its finished then :D
We hope to be giving it, its maiden voyage at Combe in April. See that vacant space where an engine should go? We've sourced a 360+ bhp lump to go in there  But....It won't be running that much at Combe. Well not at the start of the day anyway.

Fords do rock. Espacially escorts! Lovely Dar!

'Classic Ford' is blatently the best may out, then 'Passion Ford'.
I've also got couple of lil ford projects on the go aswell. A mid engined S1 escort and a cossie managed 1.9rst. All good!

my cousin used to rally mk1 and mk2 escorts, let me have a go in it, its mental. got a hand brake thing that works the opposite way where u have to push the button to pull it on, guess it makes hand braking easier. anyway its fully stripped out with roll cage etc, not sure on the engine, think its a 1.6.
i have to say id like a capri or a mk1/mk2 granada slammed propper pimp stylee (lol)

that RS1700T is nuts, iv never actually seen one before.
mk 1 and 2 escorts are well good, my mate in devon has got a mk2, he baught it off a guy that had it featured in classic ford, when he baught it he stripped it, caged it the works, its a proper rally car, it a pint in it when he took me out in it and it was well quick but he should have a rover V8 in it now.
then his dad has got an mk3 escort van with a 450bhp cossie engine in it.
theres loads escorts down there, RSturbos, mk 1, mk2, vans and there all well quick.

i might buy a mk1 or 2 soon and do it up. there well good!!

Dar
16-03-05, 07:25 PM
That Escort isn't mine :( but I reckon i've done about twice as much work on it than I have my Nova. Its a mates car that where building in my garage. The engine will be a cosworth jobbie. We where going to be putting in a 2l Zetec turbo but we have encountered a few problems on the way and they wouldn't have been sorted before Combe. Then this cossie lump appeared and we thought that'll do :P

jon_boy
16-03-05, 07:36 PM
Fords are pretty cool. im building a 2l zetec tubo for mine soon (mk6 escort). SHould be fun. One of my lecturers done the live mapping for the original RS turbo in germany. Apparently it shocked a few bmw drivers on the autobahn!! Went up for night at the ace cafe there was a mk2 with a rs500 engine in, amongst other stupid things. Oh and they made a prototype cosworth mk4 escort as well that looks like the 1700t. but 4 wheel drive

I'm feeling left out - i seem to be about the only one on here who hasn't got a MK2 Escort project on the go!

However I don't feel too bad being as my dad whose in his seventies still has his original MK1 Lotus Cortina that he bought in 1964. The one that really started it all for performance Fords in the UK - its been a remarkably successful strategy for Ford through the years.

Jonlem

A lot of respect should be given to Fords, overall most fords have a lot of potential if your willing to spend a bit on them, like anything i suppose but with the Cosworth engine installed in anything the potential is massive, I have got loads of footage of these cars from Norway and they dont just show them, they use them properly, here is some pics of my favourite cossy at the mo,
