iirc mk1 golf is 1.6 8v i think mk2 was 1.8 8v or 16v

you can also get the 2l 16v golf in mk2, but the 1.8 16v is the rare one to get hold of, and is consider to be a stronger engine by vw people.

i know some one who has 4 mk1/2 golfs. only likes the old school ones
