Hey guys.
Will the 1.6 GTE cam fit into a 1.4 carrier. I'm getting a bit worried as I was led to beleive that the 1.2 upto 1.6 we're all pretty much the same engine. I'm getting a 1.4 engine very soon and deicided to pick up GTE cam while I was in the scrappy get some odds and ends. I have the cam in it's carrier and measured it up with my 1.2 and realised it's completely diffierent, Altogther different size and fuel pump lobe in the wrong place.
An advice appreciated

Cheers

mmm, not sure about this, the 1.6 cam probably never going to run the standard pump, as you say theres no pump lobe cos they were injection and not carb! however i think that you could use it if you where going to use a mechanical aftermarket pump! like the ones used with 40's etc.

If it is gonna going to fit, how is it going to fit? The 1.6 carrier is longer by about 25mm. Is the 1.6 cam actually the same size as the others in a different carrier or is the whole shooting match different?

i can't see ho its longer as the 1.2 head and 1.6 head are basically the same cast, i think.

That's what I thought. Same castings for all of them. I took it back to the scrap yard this morning and they insisted that it was from a 1.6. What I have seems to have the ful pump bracket between valves 1 & 2 and has breather hose on top of the rocker cover. I'm a bit confused by it all really (and drunk after just watching Wales thrash Scotland, Woohoo!)

just been out and seen if the 1.6 cam carrier i have fits my spare 1.2 head, and it does.

Sounds like you got a big block carrier. Could be an old 1.6 big block, or more likely a 1.8/2.0.

Well I had suspected that this carrier was from a big block engine but the guys down the yard wouldn't give in (and probably won't).
But just to get this straight, are you saying that there two 1.6 blocks?

early cav's (circa 1985 i think) had big block 1.6. similar to 1.8 block i think.

mk2 astras and mk2 cavs had big block 1.6 engines

mk3 astras/cavs novas and corsas/vectras all have small block 1600's
