Can this be done with the block and wiring in situ? Is it recommended cos if I have to take the lump out I might aswell wait til I put a different(bigger) lump in!

I steamcleaned my engine ages ago (before rebuild) and it was pointless to be honist. Took it to the garage and used the pressure washer but still did not do that much.

Yeah, its deffo worth doing mate. You can drive your car to the wash bay, pop the bonnett and away you go, but leave the engine running, be careful not to spray all the electrical bits, well not too much anyway, and be sure to use a good engine cleaner like Gunk or something like Stiemenz (spelling) supply. Its also worth spending a few hours with a cloth, come jif (if needed) and some polish or wax after it. It'll make it look all shiney and new like a pretty new NOva engine bay!! Take a look at mine, i know its not exactly mint but its reasonably clean!

How much is it roughly for a steam clean from a garage?
