Hi all.

Just had a few brain waves bouncing around this week whilst I have been laid up ill and off work.

You will all know that when putting the 2.0 16 conversions into a nova the heater matrix pipes actually
touch the manifold on one side - so people don;t bother plumbing it in - other people pipe it up and
wait till the pipe wears away and splits (normally doing 85 down the outside lane of the motorway!!)

Well I have a solution!! Well heres a pic of the standard heater matrix from the nova matrix box :-

First job is to get some flexible hoses with 15mm compression fittings on them - I sourced mine from Screwfix
which were a couple of quid for the pair of them and they are rated to 200 psi which means they won't burst!
Cut down the original pipes , clean up and put on the olive and tighten up
the compression fittings :-

Next job was to pressure test the unit to check for leaks - there were none fortunatley ! :-

Then mount back into the heater box - the outlet holes needed cutting bigger but fitted in fine apart from this!

And then fitted in the car - there will be loads of room left at the back of the bulk head and because of the length
of the flexible pipes linking them up to the pipes will be easy as they will be accessable above the grearbox!

Hope this gives you some ideas!

and put that extra bit behinde for a bit to stop the rubbing for now..

Well looks like i will be taking it all apart again at some point, lol

Cheers for the info thouh nice idea.

How easy is it be to feed the pipes through the bulkhead as I cant remove my dash and "still" need to replace the matrix!

To do this conversion because you need to enlarge the holes for the compression fittings you'll need to remove your heater matrix and ducting unit as a whole.

However you can just change the matrix for another one without removing the whole dash , drop the cover off the ducting unit (4 x 7mm headed bolts)undo 3 bolts and the matrix should drop out - <haynes> fitting is the reverse of removal </haynes>

Hope this helps

Why bother changing the standard pipes at all, ive never done it but as far as i am aware you can just grind down the bit of the manifold that foils the pipes.

joff

when u use the flexible pipe/tap conectors u will b better off soldering a straight conector on both bits of copper pipe so that the rubber hose has a lip to grip onto (had a hose come off last year lol)
